HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw : Unbox, Setup, Connect To Wireless network using HP Smart app

The "story" (if you want context related to the question):  
I am getting seriously frustrated over here.  My parents had Samsung\_M2020\_Series printer for some time, and it was working great. But after Google discontinued Google Cloud Print, the printer is not working anymore. I know exactly why. The printer uses SPL (Samsung print language) which is not supported in ChromeOS's shipped version of CUPS. I know about all the solutions/workarounds available here - Print server in crostini, WiFi printer driver for Chromebooks (amazing job from you guys at [directprint.io](https://directprint.io)!!), local printserver (rpi and similar). But I want to buy new one for them, which will run natively. I have found out, that this extremely tedious and frustrating experience. Practically all budget home printers do not ever mention ChromeOS support ( I have went over dosens of printers in the compatible [lists](https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/7225252). I have also found, that "HP Laser" line continues the Samsung Print Language rabbithole, and they probably do not support IPP Everywhere, nor they support PCL5 or PCL6.

So here I am, asking you fellow redditors for help. Can you please suggest me budget friendly **monochromatic laser multifunction printer** that WILL work natively with ChromeOS? Preferably *wifi capable*. The budget is not set, but I would expect anything over \~250 US dollars unnecessary for casual home use.

I would like to keep this post "guess free" and welcome actual hands-on experience from people, that actually have or have seen the piece of hardware working. It potentially can help other lost people like me to choose working printer. Guessing that something might work will probably not help anyone, and such threads already exist, and I probably read them all - and they sometimes have those guesses crazy wrong.

If you shop around, you can find midrange and high-volume printers with slightly lower running costs. HP's own PageWide Pro 750dw, yet another inkjet-based laser alternative, delivers monochrome pages for as little as 1.1 cents. When shopping for a higher-volume printer, keep in mind that for every 100,000 pages you print, a 1-cent difference will cost you $1,000

7 cents per color one, while the two Canon machines will set you back 2.5 cents per black page and 13.3 cents per color page. Epson's WF-C5790 inkjet tells a much different story, delivers running costs of about 1

 If you print a lot, close to this machine's suggested 4,000-page monthly output volume, you'll find these numbers are relatively high and could wind up costing you plenty over the life of the printer.

You'Ll receive the printer 6 foot power, cord 5 foot, USB 2 cable phone cord and QuickStart manuals. The printer measures 16 and a half inches wide 18 inches deep and 15 and three-quarter inches high. When the lid is open, the height is 26 inches and when the paper trays and rear access panels are open, the overall depth is 40 and a half inches so make sure you have enough clearance in all directions to accommodate the printer with access to open

NICE ALL-IN-ONE PRINTER, BUT 1st ONE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS!

Canon sued for disabling scanner when printers run out of ink

.. But, if you take into account the shelf life of laser toner vs inkjet cartridges, it is not all that bad. Obviously, HP is charging us on its perceived product values vs actual product costs

 A wireless laser printer released in 2019 should not have this kind of fall out. Hope firmware update will fix it later. BTW, HP designed this printer with the security in mind, but it should have shipped the printer with a legitimate CA instead of trying to have user hack around the https security setting. 2
