Buying advice for first timer

Don't get the Polk Monitor line and don't get budget Klipsch stuff either. A 5.0 Emotiva set with the T-Zero Towers, E2 surrounds, and C1 center will cost you just over $1k (the towers and surrounds are on close-out sale). Get an HSU VTF-2 MK5 subwoofer and the best Denon receiver you can afford from This set-up will be way better and is still within budget.

Almost blew my sub today lol

3 speakers needs 121dB peak, 6 needs 124dB peak, 12 needs 127dB peak. A single HSU VTF-2 MK5 produces about 112dB in the lower bass according to their CEA-2010 measurement, so it cannot hit reference level. I would recommend implementing a high-pass filter at 15Hz to prevent damage if you intend to play that loudly, and get a second matching sub to aid output.
