 The one I just recieved is not the same quality. The new version is lighter. The handle is the worst part. The leather is dry as a bone and is flaking right out of the box

 I wont purchase another KaBar product if this is the direction they're headed with their quality. I would avoid this knife. It is WAY overpriced for what you get. I have a knock off that is actually of higher quality

KaBar seems to have lost its touch

 I had difficulty cutting a piece of notebook paper which is my test for blade sharpness. As a comparison, I've owned quite a few buck knives in my time and not one of them has gotten home and not been razor sharp. I have sharpen the ka-bar so it has that sharpness to it. Other than sharpness knifes like I remember it to be

 It does come with a sturdy leather sheath but I went with the "package" option and got the hard knife sheath and sharpener. I prefer the hard sheath as it is more rigid and doesn't flap as much as the leather one when worn on the hip.

This is a very good knife, very sharp and feels great in your hand. It is not my first K-Bar and it measures up to others I have held in the past. .second is the handle is of set to the spine of blade. And thirdly is the the hilt is bent forward .

 And thirdly is the the hilt is bent forward ...not the same old knives that made them famous for sure

Not the quality they once were..

.now fore the NAY SAYERS will it Rust yes it will BUT ONLY IF you're and idiot and don't take care of it; real hard to take care of it few drops or 3 in 1 or a shot of WD-40 now and then. The leather wrapping on the handle needs to be soaked in neets foot oil or use mink oil (best Choice as it waterproofs as well as conditions and preserves) or any other leather type protecting oil. The leather will (with use) loose it's shiny smooth feeling which is what you want so as to have a better grip when using the knife

 Ok about the knife itself...it is a KA-BAR made in the good Old US of A (few things are anymore sadly) (the sheath is made in Mexico but is very good quality leather it is well stitched and is stacked as well as having rivets for reinforcement) secondly it is very well balanced and the steel in these new ones are 1095 carbon steel High Quality easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a very long time

 The fit and finish is superb for the price . I did order a custom leather sheath for left hand carry from Savage Custom sheaths , and will keep the original embossed "U.S. Army" leather sheath ( Well made BTW

 :) Not only is this one of the best knives you can get for the price, but it's one of the best knives out there. I carried the black version of one of these on my deployment to Afghanistan. I had it with me in combat, and many rough situations.

 - The leather sheath that comes with this is stamped with the US Army logo and isn't as sturdy as the black leather sheath. It's great for display purposes though. (It will scratch fairly easily and is definitely more for show.) If you want to take it camping, I recommend you buy the plain leather sheath separately (or the black one) as they are more sturdy, and you won't care about beating them up

I bought this as a general purpose knife for camping, fishing, protection, and general utility use. Being a Vietnam Vet, I also liked the idea that it is emblazoned with the US Army logo. It is built to last, and I suspect that it will be around for my great grandkids to use.  I researched this company and found that they also provided knives for the Army and have been doing so for 80 years
