Getting Started with Wireless Interconnect in Three Easy StepsStep 1 - Determine the type of smoke alarms currently installed in your house.

1. Battery Powered

Interconnectable for Improved Safety
Fire and consumer experts recommend interconnected alarms for added protection. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), most Americans feel they are more at risk of being a victim of a tornado than of a house fire. Actually the opposite is true. Fires are more common than any other disaster that strikes a family at home, and can become deadly in minutes.

You have on average less than three minutes from the time you hear a smoke alarm to escape a fire. The sooner you hear an alarm, the sooner you can get out safely. By pressing the Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners.

This alarm's Smart Hush feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to 8 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every 8 seconds while in hush. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition. Because a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 10 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. While this Kidde model isn't your typical smart smoke detector, we feel it warrants inclusion in this review since it allows you to simply and economically add a wireless interconnected series of smoke alarms throughout your home. This smoke detector is much cheaper than the top-tier models and allows you to build your system up to 24 devices &mdash; 18 of which can initiate the alarm for the whole system. The other 6 devices can be strobe lights or relay modules. Since you don't need to make accounts or download apps to connect, these detectors are simple to get set up. 
The Kidde 21026044 is, however, limited in features compared to other models. If an alarm goes off, it won't send a notification to your phone, and the only way to turn off the sirens is to physically push the button on one of the alarms. You can get around this and sync it with a smart smoke alarm listener to add those functions, like the Ring or the Echo Dot using Alexa Guard. If you are hoping to set up a smart multi-alarm system on a budget, then the Kidde 21026044 and a smart listener are your best bet.

We discovered that the "Hush" button could be a little finicky.  One goes off, and they all go off. Push the mute button on one, and they all silence for a bit.  I feel much safer with them in the house, but the system has one flaw. That is that there are only have 2 models available

 She only noticed there was a fire when her room started filling with smoke. She was almost overcome with smoke as she evacuated her home and had to be treated for smoke inhalation. There were several smoke detectors that were covered in smoke, but none went off until after the fire began to spread and burn quickly. If she had been asleep, she feels she could not have escaped in time

 FirstAlert OneLink also has a combination CO/Photoelectric smoke alarm. The Kidde radio frequency is 433 MHz and the OneLink is 915, so the two systems will not interfere with each other.  Original review; I love the idea of this system, and as soon as I found it, I had to order a set for my home and my grandmother's home. They work as advertised

  I'll say it once more though to emphasize; I feel much safer with this interconnected system than with my previous non-interconnected system!!!  I just wish Kidde would give a little more variety to this otherwise great system.  I have had the system installed for a little over a year now. There have been no false alarms, but they never fail to all go off when one is tested or detects smoke. Batteries lasted about a year

Good system with one issue.

 This, obviously, was not acceptable to me. I considered purchasing a competitors equivalent of these alarms, but it appears they also work in the same frequency band. So, I'm returning these alarms, and getting more traditional smoke detectors.  In Short: These alarms provide a great capability

I purchased 4 of these wirelessly interconnected smoke alarms for the 2500sq/ft house that my wife and I are renting. Being in a fairly large house where we often leave doors closed, I felt it was important to have an interconnected system to ensure that we get the earliest (and loudest)notification possible. I would have preferred to have hardwired interconnected smoke alarms, but being as we're renting, I didn't want to start stringing wires all over the house and drilling holes. These Kidde alarms seemed like a perfect fit

Great capabilities...with one potential showstopper.

 I tested this out: I triggered an alarm with smoke and then hushed it. The 2-second flashing did NOT reset after 7 minutes as the instructions say, so the unit appeared to still be in HUSH mode. (It stays this way forever, until you reset the unit with a long button push.) I tested again with smoke, and the alarm did go off even though the flashing light indicates it is in HUSH mode, which is reassuring

I've had these for several months, and the wireless system works well. One of the units is in my detached workshop about 75 feet from the house and the wireless connection has worked perfectly.  There is one thing I am not completely happy with: when I hush one of the units because the barbecue set it off, it stays hushed apparently forever until I manually reset it. Every other alarm I have had resets itself after a time period

. I always need to push the button one more time to resume normal operations (and sometimes, the unit will beep loudly some two or three times before going back to normal operating mode.)  The manual also states that the red LED will flash when the battery is low. I didn't observe this when I woke up in the middle of the night with a chirp coming from one of my smoke detectors

This smoke detector works as advertised, creating a "wireless network" of smoke detectors in your house (please note that this has nothing to do with WiFi networks.) If one of the units detects smoke, all units alarm. This is a great solution for bigger houses and other situations where a remote unit may be too far to be heard. Another nice feature is the possibility to "hush" the alarm from any of the units

Good product, with slightly quirky operation

Two story house, was looking for some alarms that would connect without having to worry about wiring etc. Understanding the importance of having both Ionization alarms combined with Photoelectric alarms I decided to purchase two of these, one of them on each floor of the home outside of potential sleeping areas. The other 8 alarms in the house are the First Alert OneLink w/ Voice models as I feel they are better suited for most locations (located in 3 bedrooms, office, laundry, utility room, family room, living room).  These things linked with NO problem, multiple tests and they worked every time

 Because of this I have two separate systems, one by Kidde and one by First Alert. This configuration works fine for me and never fails during testing, but I would really prefer having one system that links ALL alarms.  I would give 5 stars there was wireless interconnect models for PHOTOELECTRIC and HEAT in addition to the Ionization.

 It took on average about 2 - 3 seconds for the remote alarm to sound with the one activated. By the way, these things are loud. I do prefer the alerts from the FirstAlert OneLink w/ Voice system, but these will also wake me up I'm sure.  I only have one complaint:  WHY do they NOT have photoelectric alarms in this series? The manufactures recommend that you have both Ionizing and Photoelectric alarms, yet the two major companies only make one or the other in wireless models

To eliminate false alarms from other homes, setting the identity code is like a garage door security code - just flip the numbered "dip" switches in a random pattern before inserting the batteries as indicated on the unit (but use the same pattern for all of these devices)

  Warning: Don't try to get two wireless AC versions of these and then interconnect them by hardwire as well - they will set each other off. If you get an AC version with interconnectivity (like to a security system) just be sure to not hardwire interconnect any other units.  When one unit detects smoke, all units sound, an essential feature for safety. I have installed these in two houses, have never had a false alarm, and they always work when I test them. I purchased this unit to add to my existing smoke alarm system, making six smoke alarms total, one on every floor, and one in each bedroom. Being wireless, I don't have to fish wires to the units. When one unit detects smoke, all units sound, an essential feature for safety. I have installed these in two houses, have never had a false alarm, and they always work when I test them
