The Kinetic Road Machine Control is an excellent mid-level trainer. It hits the right mix of versatility and affordability. As a tire drive, it's easy to get set up and rolling pretty quickly. It's also a smart control trainer, so not only do you get your performance data, like speed and power, but you get to control it. It's one of the few tire drive trainers with control - hence the name. So you're now fully integrated into the interactive training world of Zwift and TrainerRoad and the other sweet programs out there. It's also offered at a competitive price point. Not many trainers get you into the interactive control world without making you cringe at the expense. 
There are a few drawbacks to this trainer. It's a tire drive trainer, so there are inherent limitations on performance. Power accuracy tends to be a little lower for this style of trainer and it's no different with the Kinetic Road Machine Control. It's accurate to about +/- 5%, which is doable for a mid-range trainer but not as accurate as the premium direct drive trainers. Then again, it's a fraction of the price and gets the job done. One limitation is that this trainer needs to be plugged in to work the control features. That's not ideal, but very few trainers can overcome that problem. Riders looking to get into the virtual control world who don't want to splurge on a trainer that costs as much as their bikes themselves will get a lot out of the Kinetic.

 I've been using the Wahoo trainer for several weeks now. No problems even after firmware upgrade. On top of that, the Kickr snap comes with a front wheel stand, so that saves about $30 and it's preassembled, which the kinetic is not. Kinetic seems like a good company but in this case, just get the wahoo

Returned it due to major firmware issues

  Frustrated, disappointed, and disgruntled, I am returning this item and getting a stationary bike instead that connects to Wi-fi. For $500 I expected this smart trainer to do more than measure the calories and miles. I expected the workouts to to be interactive with video, that is not the case unless you have a subscription to another app. It also does not change the resistance of the flywheel, it just measures the work and uses algorithms to determine your exercise state

Worst purchase I've ever made

 I ended-up taking the unit apart, removing the broken power receptacle and then soldering some wires that i then connected to the power cable with an external plug (see photo). I think Kinetic should re-think their power connection strategy on this unit. 5) What is the USB connector for on the resistance unit??? None of the documentation says anything about it!  Most of the above are annoyances, and the broken power connector was my fault. Given the excellent resistance control, inter-operability with Zwift, and overall ride quality, i'm giving 4 out of 5 stars

Good riding experience with Zwift, but Kinetic App has issues. Power connector is fragile.

 I have seen other web sites where the sales price for the same trainer is 329 dollars.

6 month experience -Bad, Worse and Worst. Do not buy

  Then 1 week ago I tripped on the cord which broke the plug off the circuit board inside the trainer. I was angry with myself and with the design that was so easily breakable (see picture). Expecting nothing but being hopeful I, again, contact customer service. Within 12 hours I had a response and they, no questions asked, sent out the exact part I needed, tools, and instructions how to fix it - all FREE of charge! It is within the 1 year warranty but this was arguably my fault, not theirs, and they still sent the part with excellent instructions AND tools no problem, no questions asked, nothing
