The KitchenAid K400 is a worthy option if you don't want to spend that much on a blender. This full-size blender isn't as well-built as the Vitamix A5200 and has a slightly smaller 56-ounce capacity. Its one-year U.S. warranty is also much shorter. However, it's very sturdy and delivers a versatile performance since you can use it to process hot ingredients, blend smoothies free of unprocessed bits, and make snow-like crushed ice.

Unfortunately, processing thick mixtures like hummus is a more difficult task. It can make a smooth blend eventually, but it's a longer, harder process since it doesn't come with a tamper, and you need to stop the blender to scrape the sides of the jar. Otherwise, its design is well-suited for a variety of recipes. It has a good range of speed settings, so you can adjust the blending speed to suit your recipe. There are a few automatic blending programs you can access with the speed dial. The jar and lid are dishwasher-safe, but unfortunately, if you're cleaning them by hand, the lid and non-removable blades take some time to get completely clean.

It's not as well-built as the more expensive Vitamix, but if you don't want to spend as much, the KitchenAid K400 is a great option for all kinds of smoothie recipes. It has a smaller 56-ounce capacity, but it doesn't take long to make a velvety smoothie. Like the Vitamix 5200, problem ingredients like seeds and pineapple disappear into the mix. It has no problem crushing ice, meaning you can add ice cubes or chunks of frozen fruit. Even if you fill the jar to its full capacity, you only need to blend for a couple of minutes to get fantastic results.

The jar and lid are dishwasher-safe, but it's more annoying to clean by hand than the Vitamix blender since the blades and lid require more attention with a brush or sponge. Unlike our top pick, it has an automatic blending program for smoothies that lets you walk away from the blender and have it automatically stop when it's done. It has an excellent build quality overall, but even the gears are made of plastic, and its one-year warranty is much shorter than the Vitamix's. While it won't matter for smoothie-making, its motor isn't as powerful, and it's not as easy to use for hard jobs like making nut butter, which you might want to consider if you're looking for a versatile machine.

The KitchenAid K400 offers similar performance at a much cheaper price. If you don't mind the downsides&mdash;a less sturdy build, a shorter one-year warranty, and a somewhat heavier, bulkier design&mdash;it's a great option for protein shakes. Like the Vitamix 5200, fibrous elements like fruit skins disappear into the mix after around two minutes of blending. The 56-ounce jar works just as well with small batches of ingredients as it does when it's filled. It makes crushed ice with a more snow-like consistency than the Vitamix, which is good if you add a lot of ice or frozen fruit to your shakes.

Like the Vitamix, it has a speed dial with no set increments, meaning you can make small adjustments to the blending speed. You can choose from a few automatic blending programs, including 'Smoothie' and 'Icy Drink', which means you don't need to stand near the blender while it's running. It's harder to clean by hand than the Vitamix, but the jar and lid are dishwasher-safe. Unfortunately, it's not as well-suited for processing thicker mixtures, but that won't be an issue unless you're looking for a multi-purpose blender or want to make your own nut butter to add to shakes.

If you're not interested in paying that much for a blender, the KitchenAid K400 offers similar performance at a lower price. KitchenAid has always been my favorite brand, so is this blender. Unlike the old one that my uncle gifted me a while back, this one works like a charm. I like how quickly it blends the frozen fruits, the ice and its different speed options. The sound is not as quiet as I expected but still pretty good compared to my old blender

Very good blender!

 My only preference would have been that the main Blender Jar would have been glass. It is a tough acrylic or plastic that so far seems sturdy but I question how long it will last.

Needed a replacement for my old Ninja. We had worn out our second one and I was ready to try another brand. I decided to try the KitchenAid and it came with the smaller personal blender jars, which would make my daughter happy. it has been a great blender and I have yet to find anything that it wont blend

I bought the machine to make smoothies but that only lasted a few weeks and so almost a year passed before the blender was used again.

I never used ice in the machine and never put pieces in that would break the pitcher or slow down the motor. When using the machine I would always gently pulse the food several times first to break up the food before raising the speed to blend. I was very, very careful so the blender would last a long time.

I used the blender less than 20 times in November and December 2019. I liked it and it worked well enough.

After much research I purchased this blender in November of 2019. I was considering the Vitamix or the Blendtec machines, but settled on this one because it seemed like a sturdy machine that compared, but at a lower price.

 Add water and soap and let the KitchenAid tidy itself up for you, no headache, no danger. There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles, or accessories that come along with it…which is fine by me. It does it’s job well, the settings are appropriately powerful, and I’m not forced to store and keep track of a bunch of extra pieces. Admittedly I’m a bit of a KitchenAid fan girl…our appliances are from the brand, and we have the workhorse stand mixer, so my expectations were high when I picked up the KitchenAid® K400 Blender with the Glass Jar. And my confidence wasn’t misplaced, this blender does it maker proud, and the Magnolia color is deep and beautiful. The blender came in perfect condition, buffered inside a styrofoam case, so there are no worries it would arrive damaged. The color is gorgeous, rich and lush, and consistent throughout the blender

 The other blenders have multiple pieces you have to find. The Kitchen Aid blender has a glass (another win) jar with a tight lid. The motor is powerful and blended my items perfectly. First I made potato soup in the mixer! It did well and was so creamy

Beautiful and Powerful Blender that looks awesome

 The first thing I noticed about this blender is that it is heavy. The base weighs enough that we just keep it on our counter all the time. The beauty of this appliance with the green base and glass blender jar adds a simple elegance to our otherwise white kitchen. Needless to say, it looks great on the counter! Between the heavy base and the glass jar, I can tell that this is the high quality that you can expect out of KitchenAid

 We have used it daily and it has exceeded my expectations. It makes it so much easier to make fruit smoothies as part of my morning routine, and I love using it to prep fresh hummus for the family from whole chick peas and tahini. The glass jar of the blender is etched with measurements super quick, and the jar has a pour spout which means no drips and on the counter and less waste. But the best part of this blender is the self cleaning cycle
