This is easy to use but it's a bad design. My main complaint is that every slice is either slightly wedge or triangle shaped. The adjustment is on a single pivot/hinge, which combined with the v blade, makes it physically impossible to get flat slices. This is especially problematic with wide veggies/fruits

 The reason for the drop is for the difficulty of use. Holding food while cutting it, is very difficult. It's easier to actually hold the food rather than use the holder, but YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT! You could easily loose a fingertip!  I wish the manufacturer would make some product design changes.

  It is important to note that KitchenAid does not provide warranty service on this item. Instead, KitchenAid forwarded my call to Lifetime Brands, where I got a recorded message telling me to ship the item blind to their address in NJ. I was not impressed with the level of service.

 However, when I ran it through the dishwasher recently, the thickness adjustment knob melted. The mandoline still cuts, and it works fine at the 1/4" it is now permanently set to, but it is no longer adjustable.  It is important to note that KitchenAid does not provide warranty service on this item. Not dishwasher safe

I am very experienced with handheld mandolines and I love the tool for all my vegetable prep! This KitchenAid model was recommended for the precision of the blade positioning (which is excellent..radishes at 1/32nd " .

So well tooled, precise and so really dangerous.

I really like this mandolin, but have had quality issues. Bought my first in 2016 and it lasted for a year and a half before the ring spacer to select thickness became warped and it no longer worked. My second one was purchased last fall and the handle broke (cheap plastic) in the middle of slicing (very dangerous). I give it three stars as opposed to one as it's very effective when it works, although I will not be purchasing a third one

The blade is super sharp, but the hand guide doesn't grip well. Potatoes and fennel slice easily, many other veggies slide around and get mashed. I didn't purchase a regular table top model because I don't want to store yet another piece of equipment in the kitchen. This hand held model is easy to wash and put away, but I don't think it's going to be a "go to" tool

I bought this mandoline solely because its write-up on its Amazon product page said cuts could be made up to 1/4 inch. In fact, the maximum slice thickness setting is closer to 1/8th inch, for which I already have a mandoline that does the job just fine. Otherwise, this is a well-made item and works fine.
