I have a CRKT Ripsnort sitting between a Microtech LUDT and Protech TR3X1 in my collection, it's my: "best knife ever in the history of everything" knife. It was an inaugural father's day gift from my GF/son. She figured out I wanted a Kizer Sheepdog and came up with this knife on her own as a budget option, I was blown away. I love that clunky bitch (the knife not the gf).

I would also have liked the sharpening choil to be larger. This knife does not make the exquisite noises of the XL and is not as pocket friendly as the mini, but the size and flipper delete, coupled with the thumbhole and premium materials, makes this my favorite Sheepdog. I have a Micarta version, with a blackwashed blade, on the way from Kizer's Ali store and was planning to do a satin finish on the blade.

Kizer Vanguard Sheepdog. Nearly all are cheap and use budget steels but they can take a beating, feel good in the hand, and won't break the bank if they break or get lost.
