Just because you can spend thousands of dollars on a race-ready carbon gravel bike doesn’t necessarily mean you should. For budget-oriented riders interested in exploring backroads or taking the scenic route to work, Kona’s Rove AL 650 is plenty of bike. For $949, the Rove includes a quality aluminum frame, ample mounting locations for accessories, water, and gear, and a dependable Shimano Claris drivetrain. Further, its wide 47-millimeter tires do an admirable job soaking up the kind of bumps, ruts, and rocks that you often find on forest service roads.

As with any budget offering, the Rove AL 650 has its fair share of compromises. Compared to the Cannondale above, the Claris is a significant downgrade in both components and features. Most notably, it forgoes thru-axles (which add stiffness and inspire confidence during fast descents) in favor of the quick-release style. Moreover, you miss out on a vibration-dampening carbon fork (the Kona’s is stiffer alloy), and it sports less-powerful mechanical disc brakes rather than hydraulic. For about $300 more, we recommend checking out Cannondale’s Topstone Sora, which addresses many of these issues. Has anyone here tried commuting on a gravel bike? If so, how did it go?

 Perfect bike for that. If you plan to go bike packing with it or ride some really steep gravelly terrain, you might have to make some upgrades in particular with the gearing and get creative with how you pack things. So lots of liked about this bike. It is actually one of my favorite bikes that I reviewed this year despite all the challenges of getting the bike to review I Really like it from a purely like objective

 But if you do only use this on the road and I write it as a supple road bike, just pure pavement, That's probably going to be enough. And lastly, the final dislike, which is probably the biggest dislike for me, is I wish there was a little bit more utility in the front fork I Would have loved it if this bike had three pack mounts or had the ability to carry a small random.  I'm going to just address the elephant in the room if you guys follow us on Instagram that you know that we had a really difficult time getting ahold of someone from Kona getting ahold of a bike to review all I can do is ask forward all your requests but ultimately they make the decision so there are this. So let's jump into the review. The Kerner of NR BDL has an aluminum frame with a carbon fork and this particular model comes in this Robin shell blue which just looks amazing. The bike also ships stocked with 650b wheels and tires

 Rex I Think this geometry. You know the supple tires really lends itself to more adventure riding, but as it is you can, you have to run a reckless front bag system. But I think if they had a fork option that had three pack mounts that could take a front rack for front low riders, they really the really knock this bike out of the park in terms of a bike that's fun to ride naked but also offers a lot of utility. but as it stands, can't do that

I hope I wont get a lot of negativity for asking this question, but I switched from MTB bike to Gravelcycling (or want to switch) and I'm looking for a "decent" gravel bike under 1500€ (\~1700USD). It's very hard to buy a bike today, as there is a huge demand on the market for gavel bikes and production/lead time is very long. Now my main goal is to travel off road, obviously, but my dream is to do back packing, I would appreciate if you guys could share your thought, if you could share your recommendations regarding some brands/models. 

I have a couple of variants, but the problem is that both bikes are made by UK company, and now, since UK left EU, you have to pay for the customs, which increases the product price, and both companies don't have european warehouse, which sucks.

So please do not hesitate, let me know if you guys have some good insights.

Budget bike under 1500€

I am looking to start commuting to school by bike. I am 21F, 260lb, 5’4. I see that most recommendations discuss your height as the most important factor for bike frame size. Is weight of the rider equally important?

More specifically, I have my grandma’s old bike—we are the same height but she is probably 120lb soaking wet. We just got it serviced, so everything should be good on that front, but I want to double check that it’s okay for me to be riding it long distances. I am very, very new to cycling so I just wanted to check that I’m not missing anything.

Buying my second bike in 20 years and looking for a decent 'general purpose' bike with the possibility of doing light touring. Size is going to be XS. Commute is 45 minutes 1 way. 

Not sure what the best value is. 

Some options available to me: Felt Broam 60, Salsa Journeyman Sora, Kona Rove, or Trek FX, Canyon Roadlite, Kona Dew.

Commuter, gravel paths, and family rides

I'm looking to get my 1st bike since my teenage years. I live in rural Australia, so our roads are garbage, bike paths are mostly non existent, hot mix at best, and gravel at worst.   
I liked the idea of a gravel bike because it'll be comfier than a road bike around town more capable on unsealed roads, and more efficient than a flat bar suspension bike on longer distances and against the wind (I live on the coast, the wind never stops). The next closest town to me is 20km. How much practicality, comfort and ease am I giving up if I go the gravel bike route? And how much harder would I be making longer rides If I went for a hardtail?  


I'm pretty keen on buying online, there is no LBS and the closest is just about 2hrs each way. Is that a terrible idea?
