 this/\s/machine does have Pid, so unlike its competitors/\s/ you're always going to stay within one/\s/degree of optimal brewing temperature/\s/ The pid on this machine is a little/\s/customizable You have a low medium high/\s/ setting. On the older model of the Mara, you/\s/were able to get into the specific degrees/\s/ but they have simplified it for folks and just/\s/doing the low medium high, you can access that just underneath here. So if you're in the circle/\s/and you're pressed in the middle, that's your low/\s/ To the left is going to be medium and/\s/then to the right is going to be high/\s/ Okay, so this does have a 58 millimeter portafilter/\s/it is very nice and it has a good weight to it/\s/ as well. This portafilter does lay flat, so/\s/when you're trying to dose out your coffee/\s/ and tamp, you're not also trying to level your/\s/portafilter which is is helpful

 It's all going/\s/to be based on how well you tamp your espresso/\s/ as well as your grind size and things like that/\s/one of the things I like about this machine is/\s/ It's not overly sensitive to grind size as you'll/\s/notice here I'm just using the virtuoso plus/\s/ from Barraza with this machine. Whenever I/\s/demo this machine, this is the grinder that I/\s/ choose to use. It's very accessible to customers/\s/and it's very easy to use. It's not like some other/\s/ espresso grinders where you do/\s/get into the micro adjustments/\s/ So one of the reasons I consider this an entry/\s/level is it's not sensitive to grind size

Apologies if this is a ridiculous question, but I'd like you to tell me if I'm missing something. Here's my dilemma... 

After a brief, misguided dalliance with a DeLonghi Dedica, I'm now in the market for my first proper home espresso setup. I'm looking to buy something that will last me a decent amount of time and help me grow my skills over a few years. 

Having done my research into grinders, I'm fairly set on the Niche Zero, in part because it seems like a really solidly built, effective grinder and in part because in white it would look sick in my kitchen. But when it comes to the espresso machine, I'm really struggling. 

So far as I can tell, my options are:

1) Spend around £400 on a sub-optimal single boiler machine. This is likely to be either a Sage Bambino (which is largely made out of plastic and has an annoyingly sized 54mm portafilter that won't fit with the Niche's 58mm grind cup) or a Gaggia Classic (which has poor temperature stability and steam pressure unless I'm willing to spend another £100 and several hours modding it). 

2) Spend around £1300 on a low end DB/HX machine like the Profitec 300, Sage/Breville DB or Rocket Apartamento.

To me, the first option feels like it will leave me frustrated, while the second seems like a jump in price that's extremely hard to justify as a relative novice. So my big question is, why have no espresso machine manufacturers filled what seems to me like a blatantly huge gap in the market? All I want is to milky coffees one at a time to a consistently high standard. To this end, I would be happy to spend £500-1000 on a single boiler machine with a PID, a 58mm portafilter and good steam functionality. Surely I'm not the only person in this situation. Why does such a machine not exist? Or am I missing something? I'd be really grateful for people's thoughts.

P.S. I know I should probably have considered the Rancilio Silvia, but my understanding is that it suffers many of the same issues as the Gaggia. Also it looks like a 1980s fridge.

Why is there such a huge gap in the market between the Gaggia Classic and the cheapest HX/DB machines?

Yes, I feel Lelit is just a bit better. Their machines are designed well, they have features that make sense, and the build quality is very good for the price you pay. My point of reference is my Mara X, but I think it translates to the rest of their lineup. But more important is the grinder

At the moment I'm using a really cheap machine. Basically an 80$ Electrolux machine where I have replaced the pf basket with a non-pressurised basket and removed the panarello wand. 
Not a very good setup, but it has taken me through the last year with pandemic and studies. 

However, now I have graduated from my masters and landed a decent job. So I'm planning on rewarding myself with a new machine.

I'm looking at buying either a LELIT Anna, the model with PID, or a Gaggia classic. I could probably find the Gaggia used and save a lot of money whilst the LELIT have some more features that seems like a good idea. So my question is if the LELIT would be worth the extra money or not?

Lelit PL041TEM vs Gaggia classic

I’m looking to return my Sage/Breville Barista Touch, in order to get separate grinder and machine. But I can’t figure out what machine to get. 
The grinder, I’m pretty sure, is going to be the eureka mignon specialita.

First I was pretty sure on the Lelit Mara X. But then I discovered the Lelit Elisabeth, and think that’s better for me, and the way we drink coffee. 

But then I looked at the Sage/Breville Bambino plus. 

I’m a beginner. The touch is my first machine. We drink almost exclusively latte or flat white, so a lot of milk to mask when the shots are not perfect. 

Will the Elizabeth be worth 3-4 times the cost of the bambino?
I know it’s higher quality, better temperature, double boiler and all that. But is it worth 3-4 times more for that, when we make 2 cups, 2 times a day?

On the other hand, I would be sad if 6-12 month from now the Bambino will not be enough for me - but then again, I can get it at kind of a low price the next couple of days.

Decision Paralysis! Looking for recs on next machine

Thanks for all your insightful posts on this subreddit. I’m about to invest in a espresso machine for my family, and I’ve basically spent the last two or three weeks reading this subreddit in order to make the best possible decision.

The machine I’m looking will make a couple of espressos and a couple of cappuccinos a day on weekdays, more on weekends. For dinners I’ll probably be making 4-5 milk based drinks back to back, in addition to a couple of espressos. For me personally, the ability to create a great espresso is most important.

My budget is not set. I would rather pay extra for something that lasts longer (or is repairable), but I’m also not in a position where I can afford to waste $ 1000 on something just for fun. I'd rather by once and cry once, than feeling the need for upgrading after some years.

I understand that the grinder is important, and where I’m at (Norway) I can get my hands on the Mignon Specialita (which I understand will do a good job).

So far I’ve looked at the following options:

* Lelit Mara X ($1873 - price at my retailer converted to USD)
   * I think this will do the job initially, but I'm afraid I will grow out of It too fast
   * Reviewers says this is a good machine - but this subreddit seems to be sceptical towards the machines ability to pull consistent shots

   * Looks like this is a good deal, am i wrong?
* Lelit Bianca ($2766)
   * The heart wants this one, but the wallet will hurt
   * What will the Bianca give me that the Mara X is not able to?

I'm a coffe enthusiast, but this will be my first home espresso machine. I have some experience working with professional espresso machines but I'm not a trained barista. I'm intrigued by configurability and (as an engineer and overall nerd) it hurts getting a machine without a PID controller.

So my question is if the Mara X will do the job - and what will I get throwing in the extra $900 for the Bianca?
