 It's an interesting choice if you don't want to spend a lot of money and they're looking for a solid 8 inch tablet for surfing the web, watching YouTube and doing other simpler tasks. As I said, it's a very premium feeling tablet. While it's cameras and speakers are not that great, the display and performance are good for its price. I Also like that we're getting almost pure and worth 9 and the battery life was very long

 We're getting a metal body which is premium feeling. It looks and feels much higher end and is common in this price range. There are some thin plastic bezels on the top and bottom and around the screen though, but the rest is metal. The tablet weighs 305 grams and is 8

 The Lenovo tab m8 HD has an 8 inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16 by 10. It features an HD Resolution was 1280 by 800 pixels, which means that the pixel density is lower than on almost all smartphones, but I think in a cheaper solution at 8 inches is good enough. Sure, when you're holding it in front of your nose, you can see pixels and it's not as sharp as your phone. but for this price I think it's fine

Lenovo Tab M8 HD Review: Crazy Long Battery Life

What I got was the Lenovo Tab M8 HD. A cheap (around 120$) 8" Tablet running on a crappy MediaTek SoC and 2GB of RAM. But damn, some things are nice to do on a tablet and I got appetite for a "real" tablet. As I said, I absolutely love high-end phones but I wanted a cheaper tablet

On the flip side, I switched from an iPad Pro to a Tab S7 Plus and couldn't be happier:

- Ability to multitask while on a video call without my own video freezing, something that iPad OS only supports for FaceTime
- Ability to stream games without shenanigans
- Gboard is an absurdly better keyboard than stock iOS for me
- Easy ability to go from web results to the corresponding app
- Shockingly enough, to this day, there is no case for iPads that is both minimal and provides a kickstand; Samsung nailed it with the back cover of their keyboard accessory

Beyond that.. on Android, browsing, all the popular video streaming platforms, Reddit, Adobe suite.. all work great with tablet-optomized apps. Not to mention that Android is just a more useful OS.

Switched from an iPad pro 10.5 to an Tab s7+ and am much happier with the Samsung. For productivity, the complete lack of a desktop UI is embarrassing for ipads imo when they're selling attachments like the magic keyboard for $299.

Agree with most of your points, but I'm still happy with my tab S6 lite. I use it mainly for note taking, reading articles, and web browsing/reddit. It's plenty good enough for that, it's a good size. Just big enough for note taking but not too big. And it has a headphone jack!

Those are good points but it all comes down to what you're using it for. I almost bought an ipad during black friday but ended up buying a fire hd 10 tablet. The ipad was on sale for $300 and the fire tab was on sale for $80. Once I found out I could use fire tool box to make it function like a normal tablet I bought it. I use it mainly for web browsing, reddit, youtube, comics, kindle. In my case it's perfect.

I’ve got a Tab S6 and a 2020 iPad 10.2 and I love them both. The Tab S6 is amazing and has none of the problems you’re having with your Lite one.

My flatmate just bought S6 lite and I was planning to buy it too. But I am going to take your feedback into account.Problem is Apple's tablet isn't $329 because tablet is pretty much useless unless you have pencil which you need to pay extra. so it's actually quite expensive for a "surprisingly affordable" tablet.  
Another issue is 32GB storage. It doesn't even give room for additional memory card.  
In my country electronics is more expensive than in that US. I have never used apple products before and I don't have accessories lying around.Most of the apps are paid. Android gives us flexibility.

I always have high-end phones, mainly for the screen, cameras and performance. Currently I'm using the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

I haven't had a tablet since the original Samsung Galaxy Tab (10") back in 2011, mainly because phones kept getting bigger and the tablet hype was slowing down. This was until late 2020. I moved to a new apartment, got a new internet provider and they had a promotion running where they gave you a free tablet with a new contract.

What I got was the Lenovo Tab M8 HD. A cheap (around 120$) 8" Tablet running on a crappy MediaTek SoC and 2GB of RAM. But damn, some things are nice to do on a tablet and I got appetite for a "real" tablet. As I said, I absolutely love high-end phones but I wanted a cheaper tablet. After some research I ended up with the Galaxy Tab A7. It's around 200$ for the 32GB model but I got the 64GB model for around 240$. The 32GB model is actually discounted quite often to as low as 150$.
And what can I say? I freaking love it.

* The screen is 10.4" with a 2000x1200 resolution, which is plenty sharp. It's IPS and certainly not a *great* screen (gets quite a bit dimmer when viewed from an angle), but it is totally serviceable. That's coming from a guy who loves his Samsung AMOLED screens and 120 Hz.
* It's running on a Snapdragon 662. Low-end, but it also doesn't struggles with regular tasks, it's just slower. On the Lenovo, I opened the browser and had to wait like 5 seconds until I could type in an adress, the SD 662 is keeping up a lot better. Sure it isn't *fast* by any means, but it's ok.
* I somehow feared the 3GB of RAM would be the bottleneck. And wow, I'm pleasantly surprised. Reddit app, Gmail, browser with a few tabs, Youtube, Netflix, Youtube Music, Google Notes all open and I can switch without the apps having to reload. Of course it wouldn't handle much more but hey, that's actually very good for such a cheap device.
* The speakers are amazing for a tablet this price. Quad speakers (!), very loud and sound quality is actually decent. Of course not as good as on the Tab S7 or other expensive tablets, but for the price they absolutely rock.
* Battery life seems to be very good. I just got the Tab A7 this week so I don't want to give final judgment but so far I'm very happy with it.
* Software: The Tab A7 comes with Android 10 and One UI 2.5 Core. That's basically a slimmer version of Samsung's UI and it misses some features like DeX. But I didn't want a tablet for productivity - I have an Ultrabook for that - and if I wanted such a tablet, I would go for something with more horsepower. I use it as a media tablet. Browsing the web, streaming videos, a few games like "Among Us", Reddit, Emails etc. One UI Core runs well and even lighter multitasking (like Netflix in a hovering window or two apps open simultaneously) is no problem at all. The Tab A7 will get Android 11 some time in summer and I actually think it will also get Android 12 next year. So yes, update support is quite a bit slower and not as long, but most cheap tablets are way worse.
* Android tablet app situation: I actually think it decent. My browser (Edge) has a nice tablet UI, my Reddit app (Boost) also, Gmail, Youtube etc. too - I suspect it's better on iOS, but Android has come a long way since my Galaxy Tab back in 2011.

Overall, for the money I spent I'm very impressed.

For close to a decade I don't think anyone thought iOS on Tabs *wasn't* better than Android on Tabs.

Beyond that you got the cheapest (not premium) Samsung Tablet. Your experience is not invalid but definitely not indicative of their other tablets. I have the 6 and 7+, and enjoy them both; the 6 a bit more than 7+ depending on what I am doing. 

Looking at how Samsung is starting to gimp their lower end "flagship" line ups, your experience does make sense and it's shitty they do it. I won't say iOS isn't better though. I'll prefer the hardware and customization here though.

I have a Tab S6 Lite and my mum uses an iPad 10.2, and I think the former is better (my particular use case)

For the problems you have:

* Why not just use the browser instead of the app? (Talking abt twitter, IG etc.) Desktop sites work well on the tablets so there's not really a need for the app

* At least the screen is better than the base iPad 10.2, which costs almost the same price. The iPad of the same price has a recessed screen that looks quite cheap and feels hollow too. Also the colors look quite good, nicely saturated too, idk why you think it's muted 

* They added the feature for timed blue light filter in one of the recent security updates (I agree it doesn't look the best but still usable)

* I literally just did a side by side multitasking test vs a 10.2 and it kept up with it, did 6 apps with no problems (7th one refreshed the oldest app)

* You can't really blame the syncing of calls to your phone if it's your carrier, my works with no problem (and frankly is SUCH a good feature)

* There's no Galaxy Themes but there's Good Lock (which I'd argue is better anyway)

Why I love the Tab S6 Lite (over an equivalently priced iPad):

* Free S Pen (a stylus should be included if the tablet supports it, period)

* Stereo speakers in the right orientation (iPad 10.2 and Air 3 have both at the bottom, like why?) and also sound better, the iPad speakers are too harsh for me

* WAY better battery life. Using the 10.2, it drains so fast when doing basic internet browsing. The Tab S6 Lites lasts at least 12 hours of SoT for me (usage is Lite gaming, web browsing and Youtube)

* Much better split screen and window view for multitasking and productivity 

* Brighter screen. For some reason, the 10.2 when maxed out is still pretty dim

<p>Why I love the Tab S6 Lite (over an equivalently priced iPad):</p>

<li><p>Stereo speakers in the right orientation (iPad 10.2 and Air 3 have both at the bottom, like why?) and also sound better, the iPad speakers are too harsh for me</p></li>
<li><p>WAY better battery life. Using the 10.2, it drains so fast when doing basic internet browsing. The Tab S6 Lites lasts at least 12 hours of SoT for me (usage is Lite gaming, web browsing and Youtube)</p></li>
<li><p>Much better split screen and window view for multitasking and productivity </p></li>
<li><p>Brighter screen. For some reason, the 10.2 when maxed out is still pretty dim</p></li>

Hmmm I love my s6 lite. Some points I agree with you, but I think it works insanely well for 329 euros. The screen appears very sharp, way better than I expected. Its better than my 2 year old 999 dollar lenovo laptop, better colours etc.

The samsung case is AMAZING. Never expected the magnet fold thing to work so well. It is worth the 60 euros for sure. 

You also get a pen, which is way more expensive on ipad. 

For my use case, I watch youtube, stream netflix/ prime/ read the paper etc, it is amazing for this price. It does not stutter at all. The only thing is, it does feel slow sometimes when you load YT for example. My galaxy s20 is faster so to say. But yea, I was expecting that. I really wanted the tab s7 but couldnt afford to pay that much.

Also battery, wow, surprised me for sure. Easily get at least 8-10-12 hours, charge it once every few days.

I have an iPad mini and a tab S5e, I somewhat agree with some of the points you are making. In general apps are better on the iPad, but I still feel there’s a ton of improvements needed on Apple with the tablet apps. I bought the S5e mainly for multimedia and DeX mode. I’ve formed the opinion that the S5e is best valued tablet I’ve used. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance, I expected the mid tier chip to give issues but it’s really no noticeably slower for the majority tasks I use it for than my A12 power mini. I prefer Samsung browser to any browser I can find on iOS too. It really works well with the tablet. The screen I prefer over my iPad, the speakers aren’t even comparable. As a multimedia/desktop replacement tablet the tab S5e kills it for the price I paid for it. I even been enjoying gaming on it, so easily to load up and emulator then connect a Bluetooth controller which works amazing well. Unfortunately something not easily to achieve with the iPad. I got the mini because it’s more portable, but I find I rarely use it. Horses for courses.

I've bought my S6 lite for note taking purposes as well, and as much as I like the experience of it, the performance was something that I didn't really expect to be a downside. Double tapping the recent app button on the nav bar to switch back and forth from app to app is a hit or miss, and I sometimes have that loading circle appear on my Samsung notes app when I load my PDF files. Granted, it's about 400 pages, but I thought the UFS 2.0 storage would handle it better.

Despite the blue-ish hue of the screen, the viewing experience on the tablet was okay. At least the 5:3 aspect ratio does make the experience better than a 4:3 aspect ratio tablet, and the speakers are really good.

I tried a Tab S6 Lite recently and sadly had to return it one day later.

When the device is not even capable of web browsing without framedrops, it’s very sad. I supposed the Exynos SoC was terrible, but not to this extent. Even Android phones from 4 years ago do better than this trash, how is this possible?

Your experience is different from mine. You are trying to use the tablet as a computer replacement, so many of your points are valid.

My face unlock works 100% of the time when pointing the tablet at my face even 30 degrees off center. Agreed having to enter your pin every 24 hours is stupid, should be every week.

The display is listed as a TFT, but all active matrix LCDs use TFT. It may not be the best IPS panel out there, but it certainly can't be TN or VA. Agreed that the blue filter is terribly implemented, could have just used stock Android code and been better. I'm tired of oversaturated displays that look radioactive all the time, so this display is actually tuned decently for my preferences.

iPads are significantly more expensive when you factor in that the base models differ in storage (64 vs 32gb), the S6 Lite has expandable storage, and comes with a battery-free pen.

The biggest reason I went with the S6 Lite was the bonded display, as I wanted the tablet for drawing. A bonded display doesn't have an air gap between the display and the front glass, so the point that you draw at appears much closer to the pen's physical tip. Apple only bonds the display on iPad Pros.

My friend made the mistake of playing with an iPad Pro in store and thinking that drawing on it would be the same experience as the regular iPad. Purchased a regular iPad on Black Friday and noticed something was off. Just playing on my S6 Lite for a bit was enough to convince a switch. Especially considering I didn't have to wait for Black Friday sales and I still paid less.

I don't agree at all, I have a Samsung Tab A 10", it was half the price of a smaller ipad, it runs all the Android apps I need just fine without having to rebuy anything on IOS.

Maybe don't judge everything from your experience on one Lite tablet.

<div class="md"><p>Just in case you were about to buy an Android tablet... hear me out. (tl;dr at the end) </p>

<p>Also I should mention for the record, prices are in USD. </p>

<p>Right, so I should probably start off by saying that I really wanted to love my Tab S6 Lite. I wanted to tell myself that it was &quot;good enough&quot; for what I was using it for. But after a few frustrating and disappointing months, I eventually came to the conclusion that there are too many fundamental flaws with the experience, and I just can&#39;t bring myself to recommend it to anyone. The amount of missteps and cost-cuts they made when putting this together, and the amount of issues compared to my old iPad mini 4 that was $499 in 2015, is honestly baffling to me.</p>

<p>That being said, I think that Android tablets certainly have their place with sub-$100 devices from the likes of Amazon, meant for people who can&#39;t afford (or don&#39;t want to spend more on) the more premium devices, or for children who will easily break them. But I believe that these premium tablets that are being pushed as iPad-killers (mostly from Samsung) are just too flawed to be viable. Don&#39;t be fooled by the impressive low prices of things like the Tab S6 Lite or the Tab S7, with their nice designs and included s-pen. It&#39;s just simply not worth it. </p>

<p>The following is a general list of reasons why I believe iPadOS is currently better for tablets than Android. (note: This applies to even comparing a $329 iPad to an $849 Tab S7+) </p>

<p>• Better optimization for large screens in apps, especially in landscape mode (Twitter, Discord, and Firefox are all good examples of popular apps that are better on iPad, also the wasted space vs the iPad in apps like the Play Store and Facebook)<br/>
• Able to sync with Signal messaging app<br/>
• Exclusive creative/work apps (LumaFusion, iMovie, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Procreate, Photoshop, Flip, Logic Remote, GarageBand, various note taking apps)<br/>
• Multi-finger gestures (4 finger swipe up and hold for multitasking, 4 finger swipe up to go home, 5 finger pinch for multitasking, you might not find them useful, but especially those 4 finger gestures are very natural and fluid because of how similar they are to swiping up from the bottom)<br/>
• Longer and more consistent software and security updates (and just in case this point or its importance hasn&#39;t clicked for you yet, here&#39;s a wake up call: the Tab S5e came out in 2019, and to my knowledge it isn&#39;t getting One UI 3.0 for another 6 months even though it&#39;s been out of beta for a few weeks, while the iPad Air 2 that came out in 2014 is on the latest version of iPadOS 14)<br/>
• Stock keyboard is a better keyboard than anything on Android for tablets, due to the spacing afforded by the aspect ratio (imho)<br/>
• Aspect ratio is also better for using apps and browsing the internet (it&#39;s generally worse for watching videos due to letterboxing, but the importance of that is debatable)<br/>
• The likelihood of future apps getting full-on iPad support that don&#39;t have it yet (i.e. Apollo for Reddit) seems to be much higher than apps like Twitter and Discord getting more optimized apps on Android* </p>

<p>The following is a list of gripes I have with the Tab S6 Lite; these may not apply to all Android tablets. </p>

<p>• Unreliable and insecure biometric authentication compared to any iPad, or most other Android tablets for that matter (it&#39;s only facial recognition with the camera, so it doesn&#39;t work in the dark, it&#39;s not very secure, and even in ideal conditions it only works about 70% of the time, and you need to put in your pattern/pin every 24 hours for security reasons)<br/>
• Awful blue light filter (instead of changing color temperature, it just applies a translucent yellow over the entire display, so for example black changes to dark yellow, and also it can&#39;t even be scheduled… ??????)<br/>
• Significantly worse glare compared to newer iPads that have the anti-glare coating (from what I&#39;ve seen this also applies to other Android tablets like the Tab S7)<br/>
• Display isn&#39;t very good (it&#39;s LCD which is fine, but it&#39;s a TFT panel instead of IPS, which means it has really bad viewing angles and the colors are muted, I didn&#39;t think this would bother me but it&#39;s surprisingly sub-par even for the price imo)<br/>
• Touch response is not very good (i.e. it feels &#39;jello-y&#39; and lags behind the finger a bit more than something like a $329 iPad)<br/>
• There are occasional stutters and pauses that tend to bog down the experience (even my mom&#39;s iPad Air 2 has less frequent stutters and a more responsive touch screen)<br/>
• Multitasking is kind of pitiful (can only really hold 3 apps in RAM at one time, again I didn&#39;t think it would bother me but combined with the mediocre load times it can get irritating)<br/>
• UI is noticeably lacking smoothness/responsiveness (i.e. going in and out of multitasking, going home, quick settings, opening an app, setting up split view)<br/>
• For some reason I&#39;m not allowed to use synced calls and texts with my (Samsung) phone (probably because of Verizon not allowing it to work or something, but still that is really stupid that this advertised feature straight up doesn&#39;t work)<br/>
• Side note: if you were hoping to heavily customize a Samsung tablet, it doesn&#39;t come with the galaxy themes store and sideloading an apk of it doesn&#39;t work, so you can&#39;t use something like hex installer to customize it... bummer </p>

<p>Of course there is a list of reasons why these premium Android tablets are better (DeX on some models, micro SD card support on some models, launcher and icon customization, emulators that are easy to install and work pretty well, FoRtNiTe, third party app stores like F-Droid [and some other apps and stores for dirty people who hate spending money], also pricing outside of the US is different I get that) but to me personally, these are vastly outweighed by the fundamental improvements to the tablet experience that iPadOS has by design. </p>

<p>Sooo… yeah. Probably going to switch back to an iPad once I get a chance. Really unfortunate as I was hoping that this tablet would integrate better with my phone, but oh well. </p>

<p>*side note: This last point may be purely speculation, however Signal is already syncing with iPads but not Android tablets, Apollo dev has confirmed that an iPad version is in the works, and we have no word on any of the problematic apps that I&#39;ve mentioned getting improvements on Android (except for Signal but who knows how long that will take)</p>

<p>tl;dr: iPads are better than Android tablets in pretty much every single way these days. Cheap Android tablets are fine for the price and all, but if you&#39;re looking for anything over $300 you should probably be looking at an iPad.</p>

Thoughts on Android tablets after my experience with the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

  More than that will stress the CPU. For example, I loaded up a minimalist music program called Sunvox and half the example tracks redline the processor to a continuous 100% mark. Not too surprising since that's asking a lot for a budget tablet, but it still annoys me that my 4 year old Honor 6x running Android 7 out-performs it by miles (vs this being recent and on v9).  Tip: Comes with typical bloatware pre-installed, so there's a noticeable performance gain for even normal app use when disabling background google/lenovo apps

Strictly for media and internet.

0 a 3950 milliamp hour turn on user replaceable battery, and they're claiming up to 18 hours of web browsing on a single charge. I'm not exactly sure if this thing will get 18 hours I mean it might at the lowest brightness and the sound all the way off, but I'd say this thing will last at least 10 hours and it comes preloaded with a pretty stock version of Android 9.0 Now there is a little bit of bloat in here, but you can delete most of it. It does come with a couple games pre-installed and some proprietary Lenovo apps that can't be deleted, but overall it's a pretty clean rom

 from Lenovo be at the M7 or the M8 here. all-metal design, super thin, really nice IPS screen, great battery life and they've left that audio jack for headphones. Overall, these newer tablets feel very premium. I Really do wish they would have started using USB type-c on these, especially on the M8

 So in the end again it's really hard to recommend this Lenovo tablet, especially at the price. If this was sitting it let's say $79.99 then it might be a good buy for some people. but when you can pick up the Amazon Fire HD 10 for 150 and like I mentioned, they do go on sale for 99 all the time, this is kind of pointless

 I Recently did a review on the all-new tab m7 which is a much cheaper option than this, but I've had a lot of people ask me about the M8 HD so I figured I'd go ahead and pick one up. The price on the Ma is one $39.99 from Lenovo's website. You might be able to find it cheaper on ebay if you look around, but I picked mine up directly from Lenovo for regular price and I'm really wondering if it's worth a hundred and forty dollars when you can buy the new 2019 Amazon Fire HD 10 for 150 and it goes on sale for 99 all the time

 The keyboard also comes with its own clipboard setting.  The speaker is acceptable, but then again, I'm not an audiophile who needs amazing speakers. I do have it hooked up to my Bose Bluetooth speaker, which gives me very nice sound. The speaker works for general web browsing and YouTube viewing

Great tablet, especially if you need certain accessable features.

 You might notice some hiccups here and there, like when I try to switch around to articles here. That's one place where I notice there's like a a bit of a longer delay and with images loading a little longer, I think it's fine. But more importantly, I want to see how games perform on here. So first game here is Fruit Ninja

 It's Iron Gray, obviously has Wi-fi it's a Mediatek uh, Helio 822 tab. Um, we'll see how the performance is. An eight inch Hd Ips screen uh, 1280 by 800 to be exact and it's running Android 9. I thought it would run Android 10 at least
