 This is the LG 21 by 9 ultrawide monitor also known as the 34 Um, 68. So this is basically taking your traditional monitor and stretching it out even further. And this is a whopper. This is a 34 inch monitor

 So what you want to do with this monitor right away is one. you want to go ahead and go to your resolution and change that from 1920 1080 to 2560 1080. Now you have the entire screen. The next thing you want to do with the screen this big is and you know this is if you have the eyes for it

 So for you gamers out there, I am going to go ahead and put it in the description box. I'm going to link the higher version if you will the model of this it's actually a curved monitor and it has a one millisecond response time. so it's actually aimed at gamer. So I'm going to put that into the description box if that's something that you're looking for as well as this monitor as well

 but again we are dealing with the Beast here so let's see, pop that tape off. Got to try to stay in the camera view for you guys here. Response time is 5 milliseconds but you can mess with the settings to maybe alter that a little bit there so that's pretty much it. I Just wanted to kind of go over the website with you so let's go ahead and close that out there

 So what I have here is this is sewn alright and this is an old track of mine. These are the settings that I had my 27 inch in. So what you want to do with this monitor right away is one. you want to go ahead and go to your resolution and change that from 1920 1080 to 2560 1080

Daily Simple Questions Thread - Sep 04, 2020

  At this point I was just LIVID!!  I'm saying to myself "how in the world, can such a large electronics company like LG, that makes tons of monitors and televisions, not have an easy way for me to get my monitor to work as advertised?!?! Am I the first Mac user to ever buy one of their monitors?!?!?" Mindblowing  I ended up spending the next 30 mins on Google doing a ton of various searches, trying to find a solution. I ended up getting lucky and stumbled on to a video on YouTube that showed me what needed to be done. I ended up needing to purchase some 3rd party software for $16. After going through the steps in the video a few times, I was finally able to fix the resolution to the recommended settings and get it to look the way it was supposed to

  I'm including a photo of what the screen looked like at one point when I was trying to adjust the resolution settings. Had I not had a working 2nd monitor available, I would not have been able to get out of the screen that you see in the photo.  This was definitely not a pleasurable experience and I ended up nearly sending this monitor back due to all the trouble I had to go through in order to get it to work. There needs to be a very conspicuous disclosure made somewhere in the product description about this issue

 You just go into your computer's "Display" settings and select the resolution your looking for.  Macs on the other hand, do not offer this level of simplification. The optimal resolution for this monitor is 2560x1080. When you go into the Display settings for your Mac, you WILL NOT be able to find an option to select this screen resolution

There's only a "scaling" option and this ISN'T what your looking for.  When you try to go to LG's website, to try to find out how to setup your LG 34UM68-P, you will quickly become extremely frustrated at how difficult it is to find ANY kind of useful information on how to fix this problem

 I ended up needing to purchase some 3rd party software for $16. LG 34UM68 34" Ultrawide IPS Monitor - Review

While I wouldn't say I regret purchasing this monitor, I realize I could have bought a higher quality 16:9 2k or 4k monitor for around the same money.  The main problem for me is the resolution is too low for a monitor meant to be used at a distance of 2-5 feet. Text is blurry and jaggy, and pixels are clear to the eye from even 3 feet. The backlight bleed (not IPS glow - I know the difference) is incredibly distracting

 Colors are incredibly accurate - a quick calibration shows gamma at 48%, 25%, and 10% to be nearly perfect (if calibrating at 2.2, etc., etc.) My monitor also appears to be free from even a single stuck or dead pixel

If you sit far from it and/or aren't sensitive to flaws in a display, it's a fine monitor.

 You will end up with black bars on either side and Blizzard has no plans to support it. Having said that, the monitor itself for the games that do support it are so much more immersive and well worth buying this monitor.  The Stand: A HUGE improvement over the previous model (34UM57-P), which had a cheap, lightweight plastic stand that was not adjustable for the most part. This one has a metal core and is fully adjustable and does not allow the panel to rock back and forth like the last one
