So I’ll be turning 21 in April so about 5 months from now and I’ve shot both guns but can’t decide what one to choose but I only have the money to pick one or the other. I don’t know a whole lot about firearms since I’m only now starting to get into this amazing hobby. I do know that firing a M9 is going to be cheaper in the long run because 9mm bullets are cheaper then  .45 acp. So I’ve come to the experts (Y’all) to see what your opinions are to help me decide. Thank you in advance for your suggestions

I used pixel art to draw 105 guns from different games, can you recognize them all?

The weight of a gun really helps in mitigating recoil, making them more pleasant to fire. I had a little taurus g2c in 9mm, and now own a full size colt 1911 in .45. The larger 

Basically I just want something for my house in self defense. Now I don’t necessarily feel like I NEED it but, it feels like insurance, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Now, I’ve been looking at .22s, because they’re cheaper, and frankly, they don’t leave my arm wanting to fall off. But my issue comes from that I just seem to get treated weirdly or pressure for “heavier duty” guns or, I get sort of… mocked? I.e. “what protecting yourself from mice?” Which, was admittedly funny the first couple of times but, it’s happen so often that it just is grating. 

So, is .22 actually that weak/inefficient? Or is it just a gun owner inside joke? Thanks in advance, I apologize if this comes off as stupid or asinine.
