 Now to jump straight back into our video today, I'm going to be comparing the Mackie Crxbt range, which is a pair of speakers studio monitors designed for those of you looking to do content creation or even music production at a very low price. This whole series consists of a 3 inch, four inch, five inch and eight inch type speaker. They all connect relatively the same. They have one active studio monitor that plugs into the power supply and the other speaker just connects to it with a red and black cable

 They're gonna sound good and in a small setup for gaming and content creation, this is really a budget option that sound good and that are perfect value for the price. Whereas when you move on to the Cr4 Xbts, not much of a difference. Still a multimedia type speaker, but you are getting a bigger cone so a little bit more bass, a little bit more low end, and if you have the money, they are going to sound slightly better, especially if your setup is a little bit bigger as well. But if you're someone looking for a pair of multimedia speakers for music production type purposes like mixing and mastering, the Cr5 Xbts and 8xbts are the perfect fit for your setup

 In my opinion, I think these are perfectly designed for those of you on a really tight budget looking to get a decent pair for content creation, video gaming, and even music production purposes. When you look at the Cr3 Xbts like I mentioned in the beginning of this video, I think these are a great step up from your laptop type speakers or the monitor speakers that you have in your screen. They're gonna sound good and in a small setup for gaming and content creation, this is really a budget option that sound good and that are perfect value for the price. Whereas when you move on to the Cr4 Xbts, not much of a difference

 When you look at the overall look and design and build quality of this little multimedia speaker, it's really clean and classy and for the price it's definitely a solid product that should last a good amount of time. When we look at the back panel of this multimedia speaker, you have Rca Out and Trs output, which is nice if you want to connect this to an audio interface or just plug it into your laptop connection via an aux cable. And because it is the Xbt range, you do get bluetooth as well, which is nice if you want to connect your phone without having to plug in any cables or anything like that and just play music. and all of these come with that Xbt bluetooth type connection, but you can also get these without the bluetooth if you want to get it at a lower price, especially if you don't use the bluetooth function

Dialing the volume back at either the source or on the speakers themselves eliminates any distortion, and things are still plenty loud. However, the sub-bass on this track sounds more like thinned-out thumping than what you&rsquo;d hear if this system were capable of reaching down farther into the lows. So if your mixes deal with lots of sub-bass, you&rsquo;ll likely want to go a different route. There&rsquo;s also no subwoofer output for these speakers, so what you hear is what you get

Orchestral tracks, like the opening scene from John Adams&rsquo; The Gospel According to the Other Mary, sound bright and clear through the CR3-X. There&rsquo;s the slightest added bass depth in the lows and low-mids, but it&rsquo;s very subtle. The higher-register brass, strings, and vocals claim far more of the spotlight, and the high-frequency detail is ideal for mixing.

 That said, for most genres, they deliver an accurate bass response&mdash;just don&rsquo;t count on deep rumble.

Mackie CR3-X Review

 So let's pop this open here, put my knife down, send it over here. All right. Those of you that have seen how we go, you're gonna see stuff hitting the floor. We'll clean it up later

 And uh, this one doesn't have a cable in it. Um so yeah, this is how it's gonna connect up. Like kind of like um, monitors that you buy when you get a computer. Just a regular computer monitor

 I was a little worried. You know with the old school, you know with a lot of the you know I was a little worried. But I must say that on my initial reaction on these. yeah they sound good

 So we got our cables that they come with and they give us acoustic foam. We're gonna figure that out in a second. I'm pretty sure that's the cut down on some base rattle or something like that and some directions. All right, let's get rid of this box and let's spread all of this stuff out

The written instructions that come in the box about how to use Bluetooth are wrong and incomplete, they say that one just pushes and releases the "Running Man" icon/button to turn on Bluetooth handshaking but this doesn't work. Instead, one has to press and hold this button for 3-5 seconds until the icon is blinking and then release right away. I had to talk with Mackie customer service to find out what to do, the correct instructions are given on this Mackie video: https://loudaudio

 (But if this is a known problem, why hasn't Mackie fixed it?!!) The technical person suggested replacing the speakers so I am returning my current speakers and Amazon will send me a replacement as an exchange. To conclude: great sound for the money so recommended, but the volume knob may be unreliable for turning the speakers on and off. Mackey customer support is excellent and helpful (they responded within a day of my emails) but am surprised that Mackey is selling speakers with a known problem regarding the volume control.

 The Bluetooth connection works well and I get excellent sound quality when transmitting say Spotify music from my Android phone directly to these speakers (although I mainly use these speakers connected to the motherboard of my desktop computer with the RCA plug that came with the speakers). There is zero hiss, these speakers are completely quiet even with the volume turned up all the way (in the absence of playing any sound on my computer) and when connected to my computer with the RCA plug that came in the box . Three things to be aware of: 1. The 5" speakers are big in size and take up a lot of space on a desk, took some getting used to

 I am issuing a support ticket. If they send me another pair and they don’t have this issue I’ll keep them, but if they don’t I will look into other speakers. I was surprised to see many other people have reported this issue as well, especially since these are currently a wirecutter top pick for “computer speakers.” I will be looking at other studio monitors around this price point if they don’t fix this

Constant Hiss/white noise with all inputs at all volumes

 It took me a little bit to figure out how to get the sound to come out properly with my audio interface but I eventually got everything to work as intended. I absolutely love them. They sound absolutely amazing for making beats on. Especially trap

There is a hiss but it's not a problem

 But listening to classical music, or anything on the quiet side was just unbearable.  I gave it two stars because, I suppose, if all you listen to is loud music with a narrow dynamic range then I suppose you might be fine with these speakers. I ended up returning them.

  The noise is most pronounced when listening to music that is either quiet, or that has a wide dynamic range. When listening to rock music that's intended to be played loud, I actually really liked the speakers and the noise didn't bother me. But listening to classical music, or anything on the quiet side was just unbearable.  I gave it two stars because, I suppose, if all you listen to is loud music with a narrow dynamic range then I suppose you might be fine with these speakers

I've used a lot of Mackie products over the years and have always been satisfied, so I was expecting these speakers to provide a more pleasant listening experience than they did.  As a number of other people have mentioned there is a really annoying hissing sound that I just couldn't get past. And I tried. It sounds like some kind of electrical interference, but no amount of moving them around or plugging them into different plugs seemed to solve the problem
