Started Rusting in Less Than a Month!

 However I know there are also a lot of very crappy electric can openers and in my opinion their a waste of cabinet space and a pain to clean. So I decided I would have to do my research just as I would before buying a car or an expensive appliance. So I took to Amazon reviews and came across this baby. This manual can opener is amazing, yes I know it seems a little pricey for a manual can opener but if you count the $10

 So I decided that I would buy the second replacement. I mean how hard can it be to find a good manual can opener? As it turns out it's apparently pretty hard to find anything of quality these days. So the next replacement I bought from Dollar General, while it had a better quality handle than the one purchased from Walmart it still wouldn't effectively open a can. By this time my husband was convinced an electric can opener was the way to go because he had never had an electric can opener

But who would have imagined that an hour of research would be necessary before purchasing a manual can opener, something that should be so basic and simple that folks have been using for many years. It's hard to find the time to spare an hour to research every little $10.00 purchase and who wants to pay shipping on every purchase? So I've started to accumulate the things I need in my Amazon cart until it totals $25

Update - the company did respond to my concerns and sent me a new one. I do like this can opener - smooth operating, but the issue is still present for cutting the thumb. What I do is turn the crank slowly past the point of the sharp edge before starting the next crank cycle. It is nicer than others I've bought in that it is smooth, the rubber guards on the handles seem to stay in place and the can opens nicely

 Made in USA doesn't necessarily mean made well. In my opinion you could buy a less expensive can opener which will do the same thing and be just as prone to rusting as this was. If I seem a little bitter in this review it is because I am: I paid $10 for a can opener with excellent reviews which has performed poorly and within two months has rusted to the point where I have no use for it.

  If this is true, then I'm truly bummed, since I really don't want a enormous electric can opener taking up valuable space when I don't even use canned goods that often. I wish that someone would take this good construction idea, and just redesign it a tiny bit so that the blade dives deeper into the can, rather than practically skimming the surface, allowing the can metal to bend and avoid the blade altogether. Or maybe that wouldn't work either. Maybe the can metal is just too soft these days

 If I begin having trouble with a loose joint again, I will update my review so that others can see whether or not it "wears out" over time. I'm very pleased that the company was so proactive to read my one-star review and offer me a replacement, when I was too skeptical to contact them myself.  UPDATE3: After many months of using the opener on all different types of cans, I now know that this can opener is fantastic, and it's not the cans that are a problem. What a relief to find a great can opener that really works!
