Meinl Byzance

It's their choices for what makes for a great studio setup with the Meinl Byzance cymbals. Still, wow. Nice choice. :) This setup looks tasty and fun!.

My cymbals comprise A & K Zildjian, HH & HHX Sabian and Meinl Byzance. I have managed to procure most of my equipment at huge discounts and they suited the sonic demands I had, thus I jumped for the same, brands irrespective. Hence, I would definitely buy any additional item, brand irrespective, as long as it sounded great or the deal was too darn good.

The bell on the 17 is substantially smaller than the 18, and I think the 18 has a flatter bow. And IMO the 18-20" A-customs are some of the best-sounding and most versatile crash cymbals ever made. I'd also look at the Meinl Byzance crashes to complement. I have a 20" Byzance Medium Crash to complement the 17 & 18 Zilds and the 3 sound great together.

I recently went through the hunt for new cymbals and ended up with a mixed set of Zildjian K Sweets and Meinl Byzance Models. When I was shopping around one of the best things I found that compared to playing them in the store was watching the videos that Memphis Drum Shop posts on YouTube. I would go back to back comparing and listing to different samples. Of course, Not the same as being there in person, but it certainly helped me narrow down and settle on my favorites.

Also if you’re looking for darker, drier sounding cymbals, you may want to look into Meinl Byzance models. I have a set and love them… tbh they stay on the set more than my K Sweets. They tend to have a “trashier” sound but I love the way they sound on recording. They seem to blend into the mix nicely.

I went shopping for a new crash, and came home with the Meinl Byzance Dark, 20". I'm very, very happy with it and it sounds terrific.
