 SO, the 3rd SP4 is much better in this regard, it still has a bit of a yellow tint on the far right hand side of the screen about 3/4" wide - I'll give it a bit of time to see if it improves, but it doesn't bode well (the third time is not the charm here...)

The Surface Pro 4 falls short of greatness - that about sums it up! The SP4 is a brilliantly engineered piece of hardware, however, there are most definitely quality control problems and bugs that should have been caught before release. I've been working in IT for 15 years and I can honestly say, I would NOT recommend the SP4 to anyone (yet!).  Here's my experience: The first SP4 I received was DOA - I was really bummed when I couldn't even get it to power up (even after charging for an hour and following the "two button" shutdown procedure in an attempt to resuscitate it). I took the dead SP4 to the closest Microsoft Store here in Atlanta and they swapped it, no questions

  Aside from the screen issues I encountered, the hardware itself is amazing - the i7 is very fast and runs much cooler than its predecessor, the fan doesn't run as often, backside doesn't get as hot and it's not nearly as obnoxious as the fan in the SP3. Windows Hello logon with the built in infrared camera is wonderful. The speakers sound as good as the SP3. The magnetic pen mount on the left side is handy

Surface Pro 4 Stylus falls apart after about 3 weeks of use

Not the Microsoft Surface those things don't last beyond 2 years. They have the worst rating from Ifixit regarding battery replacements and user replaceable parts.

Which one of these laptops should I buy? I just need something that can handle Microsoft office applications, and last 4 years.

 I downloaded the updates from Microsoft website, desperately trying to improve the situation. It did a bit but never enough. So, conclusion was eminent, I got to replace it with something else.

 As I configured my new devise, the first day of using was a bad surprise. The battery could hardly survive 4 to 5 hours of usage though I used the same tricks of power saving mode and low brightness level. It was such hard and sad decision I made to sell my Surface Pro 4 after less than a month of using it. Why?? It’s battery life. And it’s too serious for me. I do travel a bit, at least once a week

Hello! I need help deciding on what laptop/computer to get for online work. I work mainly as a writer/editor and I also run a small NGO with my partner. Having said that, the programs I use the most are Microsoft Word and the Google app suite (docs, sheets, drive, etc). I have a very tight budget (~350 dollars max) and I am looking at getting either a Teclast f7 plus or a Lenovo s340 Chromebook.  They have their own pros and cons. For the Teclast f7 plus, my pros are its a windows computer so Microsoft Office is easily compatible. It also has good storage space and it is essentially a “proper” laptop. My only concern is the fact that to me, it seems like a not so established Chinese brand and I don’t know how reliable it will be as a device long-term. On the other hand, I like the idea of the Chromebook since I work a lot with Google Suite for our NGO as well. I do worry about compatibility, particularly with Microsoft Word. Another issue is storage on the Chromebook is very limited. I have no problem augmenting with a microSD card but I need to know if doing so will slow the device down. I am mostly leaning towards the chromebook still but I can’t seem to commit fully (i’m a bit scared to, i think hehe) So those are my concerns. Any tips?

Laptop suggestions

 I went with the second most powerful Pro 4 mode because you can't really upgrade this tablets so best to get the most so it should last a long time. It is powerful but the touch screen is too sensitive and hard to adjust, you'll get really frustrated with it very fast. Also it like to switch from laptop to table mode very easy, so turn that off. Also the keyboard expansion does not alway activate when needed

Over all good multi laptop/tablet computer.

I won't lie, I've had multiple moments of pure frustration with my Mac and even iPad with apple pencil compared to my surface pro and pen. But I absolutely love the integration and how I can start a document on one device and finish it on another, or I can actually sign a document using my iPad instead of scribbling on the touch pad just like I could do using my surface pen. I'm slowly sorting through differences and learning to avoid these frustrations.

Here’s my situation: I’m a lifelong Windows user. I earn my living on a Windows PC using Office apps. I like Windows - it doesn’t get in my way and I know how it works. For me, it’s almost perfect. 

So only a fool messes with something that works, right? 

The trouble is, I’m being lured in by MacOS. I’ve seen so many claims of “once you go mac you don’t go back”, and “I used Windows for ten years and then I used MacOS for one day and I was hooked”, but these are rarely backed up by reasons of why. 

I have some limited experience with MacOS and I’m not afraid of learning new  keyboard shortcuts and whatever else I’d need to make the switch. In truth, it’s the hardware that interests me. I had an M1 Air for a couple of weeks and it was amazing as an object to hold and use. I just didn’t get hooked on MacOS. My love of tech demands I buy a MacBook Pro that I can afford but don’t really need. 

So, MacOS stalwarts of Reddit - what does MacOS bring to your lives that Windows does not? Windows for me is transparent - it’s just there as a platform for my work and I rarely notice it’s there. Why does MacOS command such loyalty? Surely it’s just a means to get things done, isn’t it?
