 ‘Filter cone’. This is a coarse pre-filter which, if it clogs, will definitely cut down the suction power of the vac. Accessing it requires removing the main dust receptacle, then pulling a handle which releases the filter cone, which lives in the dustbin. After vacuuming my house one time (one medium-sized dog on premises), this ‘filter cone’ was wrapped with dog hair and definitely needed cleaning

 This thing is interesting. It lives in its own compartment behind the dustbin, is about the size of a small thermos, has a handle to pull it out of the vac. Every so often while you’re using the vacuum you’re supposed to hold down the “Clean” button on top of the vac. That starts a special stepper motor that shakes the ‘fine dust’ filter; any loose dirt on it is supposed to fall to the bottom of the receptacle that the filter is in

 Keep in mind that all this is happening inside a filthy dustbin. And be very careful with that screwdriver so you don’t break the catch.  3. The last filter is called the ‘fine dust filter’

 Every so often while you’re using the vacuum you’re supposed to hold down the “Clean” button on top of the vac. Then every six months you’re supposed to remove the receptacle, run water in it, shake it, dump it out, then let the filter dry for 24 hours. So obviously the vac is out of service for a full day

This is a GREAT vacuum, but I can’t recommend it...

 Bagless vacuums also use consumables, they need a new hepa filter once a year, and fabric filters need to be replaced after a few years. Cordless vacuums will eventually wear out their batteries.

Canisters vacuums do great on long hair and pet hair on hard floors with suction only floor heads. No brushroll, no hair wrap.

I have been mulling over what vacuum to get for months now. I was set on a canister Miele because of reliability but then I just started going down rabbit trails. So I'm looking for something to check off the following boxes.

-Easy manuverability since I have a baby and toddler. I want a vacuum that will stand the test of time so was originally all on board for Miele canister but it is cumbersome to get around especially with little kids. I know stick vacuums arent necessarily a BIFL purchase but I want a vacuum that I'll actually use and stick seems more accessible. I've heard that Dysons are overpriced for what they are but those are probably the most popular.

-Good for long hair/pet hair

-Good on predominantly hard wood floor and some area rugs

-Something that is as eco-friendly as possible. My husband really wants bagless because he doesn't want to throw vacuum bags into landfills. We actually went ahead and purchased the Miele Blizzard Cx1 which is bagless but I'm really not sure I want to keep it because I've heard that the lifetime filter doesn't last longer than a year or so. And I also have concerns about the longevity of bagged vs bagless.

Spending way too much time picking vacuum--help!

 The vacuum wand is very easy to adjust (make it longer/shorter) or to take apart. No longer having back problems trying to vacuum! 3. I love that you can adjust the power suction- especially for bathroom floors/rugs. You cannot adjust the electro brush though so you cannot clean with the brush on

 Again, I am comparing this to the Dysons in the past which were not as wide or high. I found myself hitting the sides and getting it stuck as I tried to go under things.  Pro: 1. Suction is great

 The cord is so short. The Dyson I owned had a very long cord and could go from living room to kitchen. This one I have to continue finding an outlet as I transition into the next room. 2

  Pro: 1. Suction is great. Transitioning to carpet to tile is very easy with a switch on the handle of the vacuum. 2

  Overall, I am a bit disappointed that Miele did not make a vacuum with a longer cord and lighter weight. The description doesn’t say how long the cord is (you can search through and find answers for it though). But I feel that they purposely don’t advertise the cord length because it is so short. For being twice the price of dysons, I was expecting it to be doubly awesome in which I was quickly disappointed

Not What I Expected

Avoid the Miele Blizzard CX1, the cyclone and filter aren't the best and it's been discontinued. If you're looking for longer-lasting, I like Sebo a little better than Miele although Mieles are still great vacuums.

So I finally got a job that lets me purchase things that won’t break in a month or a year, so the vacuum is the next upgrade. 

I’ve done some research here and other places, and I’ve landed on the Miele Blizzard CX1 Cat and Dog Vacuum. It is pretty pricy, so I wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts on it or something similar before I went for it.

I do have pets, and would love something bagless. I also have a lot of area rugs on hard wood, so it’s a 50/50 split. (I also know that there is no such thing as a “forever” piece of equipment, but anything that will last a long long time) 

Thoughts? Other recommendations?

 I was used to the power button on my Kenmore which was on the handle. Super convenient for turning on and off during jobs. Not this one. It’s on the canister

Not sure it is worth the money

Miele's bagless machines really aren't their strong-suit, to the point that a lot of folks would call them 20 years behind the rest of the market. Biggest flaw to the Blizzard CX1 models is their inaccessible exhaust filters that'll clog up over the vacuum's life. With this maintenance-unfriendly design, I can't really consider this a buy-it-for-life machine.

I’ve been looking at the home edition Miele C-3s mainly, the bagless version for convenience. My concern with bagged is our current situation (mostly carpeted apartment but will be moving into a home in the next year that will be mostly hard floors) and our dogs. We have two long haired dogs that shed a ton, I mean it’s absurd how much we pickup every few days. I know bagged have better filtration and suction but we don’t have allergies or anything that requires ultra filtration. Currently have an upright Hoover with a ton of sucking power and does fine (bagless) so I’m not totally sold on the bagged idea. I feel like it will turn into a major expense with the bags in the long term even though they compact it more than bagless does. Any thoughts?

Bagged or bagless Miele canister?

" Powerhead marked "made in Poland." I don't know if components were made elsewhere and assembled in these countries. After QC issue, I didn't want to take a chance on it. At this price, I expect it to be inspected in the plant

I had a Meile canister for over 20 years service. Until can't get parts. So was impressed with its quality.

I went Miele CX1 and just sold it at a huge loss cause animal hair and general suction was so bad. Super disappointed won’t buy again and have been highly recommended Sebo fwiw.

I followed the advice and went to the local vac shop to test vacuums IRL. I liked Miele swivel head and low noise (even on max) but when they turned on Sebo OMG the suction power was as if it was going to suck up all the flooring with everything that’s beneath it. Meier max settings seemed light strokes in comparison. I’m torn tbh as I was leaning towards Miele before trying it out. Maybe I’m missing smth ? Miele has 1 year warranty and Sebo 5-7 years in this shop (not 10 as I read here). 
The background: we are renting a wall-to-wall carpet apartment (90%), have a slightly allergic toddler (so HEPA and everything that keeps the dust inside are welcomed), have a fluffy cat and a dog. I’d like to have smth universal as I don’t know what’s the next rental would be so I don’t want to buy a carpet-only vacuum. 
Which one is more suitable or maybe I need to look in different direction? The budget is ~700 but as usual if it’s cheaper than this it’s great :)

Sebo Felix/Dart vs Miele C1 cat&amp;dog

Meh! I wanted to love but honestly the Dyson or Shark work just as good. I had to replace pieces on the last Shark every year or so which is what prompted this purchase. We’ve had over a year and while nothing has had to be replaced, it doesn’t seem to like Rottweiler hair. There’s always hair still on the floors (LVP and tile)
