We feel that using the vacuum is very easy on your back compared to our experience with upright units. The hose in this model with the pivoting head makes it easy and less burdensome, since you don't have to worry about the hose getting twisted up on you. Switching attachments is also very quick and easy, and the different mechanisms feel like the rest of the unit, well made and durable.

* The 6 ft hose just doesn't feel long enough, especially since you only have a limited swivel at the handle end. I often find myself needing to remove the hose from the wand just to get it untwisted. Makes me miss my Simplicity Cinch with the full swivel at both hose ends. * Due to the size of the machine, I don't feel super comfortable standing it on my stair steps.

Personally I think you would be much better off with a corded vacuum still especially that size house. Getting something like a SEBO E3 or D4 or a Miele c3 would suit your needs far better from what you described.

Just picked up the Miele C3 Marin with SEB236 and am afraid we grabbed the wrong vacuum. We have hardwood floors throughout the house with rugs in each room (hand knotted and wool Persian rugs). Reading the instructions and seeing that we probably purchased the wrong vacuum for our house.
