 I prefer to use ranger bands to secure things to my sheath, I find I can get a lot more on it that way and make a whole kit.

 Really don't need the groove for my finger, I think its completely unnecessary for a knife this size, I'd rather be able to grip up on the blade comfortably. I guess they think it makes the blade more "ergonomic". Yeah.

We finally have a Mora, that I think almost anyone could agree, makes an excellent primary knife.

 Mine does not have good retention, its functional, but thats about it. Furthermore, the handle has a rubberized coating, which is comfortable and grippy, but mine is allready wearing simply from pulling the knife out of the sheath. Because of this, my sheath will eventually cease to retain my knife at all, I'm sure. I would have been happy without the rubber coating all together, even if I had to wrap grip tape on the plastic handle

  I wouldn't expect this knife to last a week in the field. There's not a lot you seem to be able to do with it that's not going to bust it. Carving some sharp sticks for hot dogs is probably about it. Shaving little pieces of wood seems to be about all this knife is able to reliably do

 I'll keep this as a back up to the Schrade, but only because I already bought it. If I was looking for a back up to the Schrade, I just would've bought another Schrade as this is a few bucks more.  Morakniv makes decent blades, then insists on sticking them in terribly made plastic handles and sheaths. This is their downfall, in my mind

 The thumb ridges on the sheath is not in the right place for this motion either, so I guess we’re meant to adjust our grip after unsheathing? Also, the rubber is so grippy against the sheath that pushing on the thumb ridges is too much friction.  The sheath’s locking action relies on the softer rubber of the handle at the hilt - it wears there almost like a pencil eraser with visible damage to it already on mine. Feels like a design flaw, but not a dealbreaker.  The sheath’s clip seems to ride too low on my hip

 Perhaps in conjunction with the other issues above, the offset axis of rotation makes it feel unstable on my belt since there are effectively two rotation points - the second being the center of the belt. I think I’d actually most prefer a higher attachment AND a fixed angle, handle tilted back on the hip.  I’d like to hear from experienced users on this topic of the sheath clip affixment before I get temped to modify this one by breaking the clip in half and shortening it, supergluing the half-turn section higher on the clip. I might 3d print a prototype, but I would be weary of trusting such a prototype to stay secure under strain

First knife.  Sheath doubts

 I love the grip, feels great in my hand, and I love the 90 degree edge on the back of the blade.

Most people said their knives arrived razor sharp but mine was far from. I tried the typical tests like shaving arm hair or cutting through paper and that was a joke. The knife didn’t come close to slicing through paper. It carved on a stick alright, but a Walmart knife could do that

Unpopular opinion

 I should not close without mentionning that this is the thickest and strongest blade-stock that Mora has ever offered. The Blade is a little bit longer and taller than the original Bushcraft line (check specs and reviews).

 Even though it is somewhat over-priced, for what it is, This system (knife and sheath) will not break the bank, as the $40 price point also includes delivery.

 The steel is 1095 High Carbon with a protective finish (guess what color). The finish is slick and smooth as glass (not thick textured paint and not powder-coat).

 This knife *IS* significantly lighter than my Ka-Bar USN MARK-1 and THIS Mora Black will ride in my Waist-Pack EDC or my Jumbo EDC, to provide the best utility and durability for the given weight. Add a Bahco Laplander folding Saw to a Jumbo Deployment Waist-Pack or a UTG Multi-Functional Bag (aka gear-slinger) and you will not be caught without an effective cutting system. This is the lightest and most cost effective option, to cover the "CUTTING" requirement of "The Five Cs".

Best Mora Yet, for Survival & Bushcraft !

 Many knives marketed as survival knives today have simplisitcally machined tangs that meet the blade at 90 degree angles like the letter "T" (sometimes referred to as "stick tangs"), which creates centers for accute stress accumulation in the corners that will put the knife at risk for breakage when used for chopping or battoning. I've seen it too many times. Even Kabar and Cold Steel are guilty of this. A true full tang, like the type found on ESEE's knives, is still preferable, but the Mora style tang is adequate

This knife has all the features that are important to me in a wilderness survival knife:  - It's made of carbon steel with a moderate temper, which is much more durable than stainless steels in the same price range. This also makes it easy to resharpen.  - It has a properly radiused tang junction, which to me is the single most important aspect of a survival knife, because it requires this in order to withstand use as a wood chisel for felling trees. The company has pictures of their knive's tangs on their site

  - It is no thicker than it needs to be in order to retain stiffness. Any thicker than about 3mm, and it's just useless weight. So many knives today are way too thick, probably because people think they need the thing to split logs because they haven't learned the technique of quickly fashioning simple wooden wedges for the job. 3mm is perfect in my opinion

Intelligently designed, amazing value.

 The longer tang, a flat ground spine, carbon steel as opposed to stainless and an available sheat with a ferro rod. Its heavier with a thicker spine than most other Moras. The handle is a little nicer material.

If the Black had a reasonably nice leather sheath I'd give it 5 stars. Even without a leather sheath, I don't I should have to pay another 20 or more for the upgraded sheath with ferro rod. Guess I am having a case of buyers remorse and want to help you avoid it.

CASE OF BUYERS REMORSE

 That knife is bulletproof and comes with a very well-designed sheath that folds out into a sharpening platform and holds a ferro-rod. The ergonomics are better on this knife but the BG beats it in durability and sheath features.

The handle ergonomics are great - it feels good in your hand. The shape fits your hand and the material gives you a good grip. The handle material covering is not hard, which is one reason for the great grip. You can press it with your fingernail and it will give about 1/32 of an inch and return to shape instantly

This is a really nice camping knife for the price

 It cuts wood fine without doing that, but I'm sure it'll be better once it's sharpened back to a true scandi with a sharp edge. The coating is really good and strong too, while not interfering with performance at all. It's the best I've seen on any knife. The sheath is plastic: solid for the price and the knife clips in well, has two belt loop options, a full loop and a good solid clip

Overall, it's not as amazing as some reviews have it, and I'd get the Orange stainless one if buying again (it's good sandivec stainless), but at the cost this is a really good knife and I'm happy I bought it

The knife itself is phenomenal. Cant say enough good things, people can have their multihundred dollar outdoor knives, this will do anything any of those knives can do for a fraction of the price.

For the price, if you buy this knife and then just throw the sheath in the trash, still a great but. But damn Mora, you could do better

But the sheath, my god the sheath is awful. It's a friction sheath, which is fine, but the blade goes so deep that the finger-grip is below the top of the sheath. Which means every time to pull it out you have to slightly adjust your grip.
