 The push button over here engages the modulation and although it's subtle you can easily mimic the wow and flutter of a tape delay. So first let's turn off the modulation and see what kind of delay times we could get. I'm playing on a G&L Comanche into a 65 amp Soho. Here's the bypass signal

 So it's a nice subtle effect and if you want to adjust the width or the speed of the modulation there's actually two easily accessible trim pots on the inside of the pedal. So here's a good setting for a short slap-back echo. I have the repeats set to about two or three and the mix is up quite a bit. So here's my favorite setting

 Now let's check out the range of the mix control. So the cool thing about the mix control is that if you roll it all the way up you'll still hear the guitar's dry signal. MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay

1.5 years of pedalboard evolution. I’ve tried a lot of pedals, ask me about them.

Missing the velvety smooth sound, knob sweeps and subtle modulation of the first run. Modulation is set too high form factory, cannot match the settings of my first one and the overall sound is not as good. My first one slowly got too quiet for my use, even with the mix level all the way up but what you can hear still sounds much better than the new one.

These are not what they used to be. Not impressed compared to the first run.

 It also comes in a deluxe version, which has a tap tempo, and you can alter way more parameters. Our lovely Sam from PMT has a video of that guy. It also comes in a bright version, which comes in a brighter shade of green, and it's a slightly more crisper kind of delay sound. But if you want the classic carbon copy, the dark green one is the guy to go for

 It's such a good, famous, reliable pedal. It's a little box of wonder, really. It's an all-analog, true bypass, lovely, warm, Booker Brigade delay sound, and it's remarkably simple to use. Even a numbskull Jordia like me can do it

Hi, I'm looking to buy my son a pedal or two for Christmas as he's expressed interest in trying some out.  I don't want to directly ask him what he wants because I'd like it to be a surprise so I was wondering what you folks would recommend as good pedals to start out with. He plays acoustic, electric, and bass but I think he's mainly interested in pedals for the electric guitar. I know nothing about this so any advice would be appreciated! (Or if I should just get him a gift certificate to guitar center or something so he can pick it out himself, that's helpful info also!) Thanks in advance!

Best pedals to start with?

This really is a fantastic delay, I played in guitar center and listened to it on youtube and it seemed very "ambient" and pleasing, and in person it about fits the same bill. The texture is very organic to my ears, and fills space without clogging up the guitar's signal. My grippe, and after reading other comments it may be what the pedal is designed for, but to me the "mod" button seems almost useless, I find that it boosts the top end frequencies, but at the same time it thins out the bottom end frequencies so it just sounds less full. I've used other delay pedals with "mod", and this one is still better than most, but it stumps me why even have it when it's effect minimal, and what I found was it's VERY difficult to use without getting the "seasick" tone

That said I think after 9 o'clock, the pedal may start to filter in gain that increases the pedals signal, and if your playing straight into an amp this will "fight" your preamps gain, so if you have that issue you can just turn down the mix knob and it will sit very well in the mix.

Best Delay I've Ever Heard, Questionable Modulation Function

 I recently took it off my main board and replaced it with the Walrus Audio ARP-87 because I like the momentary functions of the ARP-87. But the carbon copy is awesome; killer warm grainy repeats, beautiful modulation, and self-oscillation.

Cranking the secondary knob can be a bit much, but definitely a lot of cool stuff going on with this pedal. I’ve had the MXR Carbon Copy for years. I recently took it off my main board and replaced it with the Walrus Audio ARP-87 because I like the momentary functions of the ARP-87.
