Do they work? What can they be used for? What's the law surrounding what you can do with it? I'm gonna find out about all of those things in this video include about this next base 522GW Is that any good? So stick with me. I drive a ton for work and have been meaning to get a dash cam for a long time now, but every time I look for one I get overwhelmed by all the options and features. 

I drive a 2012 Ford Fusion (which has a weird box behind the rear view mirror for sensors and stuff). I also have a Samsung galaxy s20 - which for some reason said it was excluded from compatability on a cam I looked at awhile ago (despite other Samsung phones working fine, so idk what's up with the s20 specifically).

I want a front and rear camera that have a wide angle and can be accessed from my phone. I'd prefer no super fancy bells and whistles, I don't even really care for the camera to have a screen on it, but that's not a deal breaker. I just need decent quality day/night/parking recording that works with my car and phone. I'd prefer to spend less ($100-$200 ish), but top end of my budget is $400 usd. No need for speed monitoring/ gps/ voice commands or any of that, just simple and easily accessible downloads.

Please help, I really need to get a dash cam, but I'm at my wits end with looking.

Help! I'm overwhelmed, please help me find the right camera

 No problem. Except, during this shut-down process, I can sit and watch the battery icon drain away. I watch the battery drain double digits, AS I SIT THERE LOOKING AT IT, DURING THE CAMERA'S OWN SHUT-DOWN PROCESS, EVERY TIME. And on those rare occasions where I remove the camera from the car, I have to be strategic and plan ahead, because I know that I will have, at best, maybe 60 seconds to do what I need to do with the camera before the battery fails

 I watch the battery drain double digits, AS I SIT THERE LOOKING AT IT, DURING THE CAMERA'S OWN SHUT-DOWN PROCESS, EVERY TIME. And on those rare occasions where I remove the camera from the car, I have to be strategic and plan ahead, because I know that I will have, at best, maybe 60 seconds to do what I need to do with the camera before the battery fails. 60 seconds.  If it's the heat of summer that has damaged the battery, then they need to find and offer a better solution

Nice dash cam in all ways except one. The camera's battery is indefensible. Being installed in my car, as dash cams are, the camera is plugged in almost all the time, and hence has a fully charged battery almost all the time, as normal. Every time I turn my car off, the camera does it's little shut-down process, part of which is that the touchscreen automatically comes on for several seconds

How did the battery pass QA?

 And then the power cable itself, which has a little light on it as well, so I guess you know when it's having power. Don't know why they would put the bulky bit on this end though, right where you can actually have it in your eye line. Right, well to begin with, need to charge the camera for two hours, and then install it in the car, power it up, see what we're working with. So now the camera's installed, let's have a look at a couple of the clips to show how it performs in different light levels and different weather conditions and see what we think of it

 It is pretty good, it does have its flaws, it definitely has a fair amount of bugs but it works fairly well. I've used it about three times and every time I've had an issue with it from the playback not working properly to the annotations being in the wrong place but honestly when it is working it does a great job. So what are my final thoughts on the Next Base 522GW dash cam? Well I like it, I think it's a good package, it does everything you need, nothing you don't and it's got a nice array of features on it. I think the best thing about it is the price point, you're not going to find better for the same price and I think it will work perfectly enough for everyday use for most drivers

 Me personally, it doesn't quite offer what I'd like from a dash cam, I want a bit more quality, I want to be able to see a bit more detail in the video but it's certainly enough, particularly if you're just using it for insurance purposes, does plenty enough for that but you can probably get cheaper that will do the job just as well to be honest. The good thing about this is it does come with the features on it that you wouldn't get on most other dash cams, so the Emergency SOS and the Alexa support and as I say I don't think I'd get the use out of it but certainly it is a neat little package for everyday use. My boss is letting me expense $250 for a dash cam. I drive a lot of miles with a F150 and occasionally tow equipment. I feel like I only need a front facing camera, rear would be a plus, and definitely don’t need an interior camera (you can turn that off on the N4). I’ve read enough reviews to make my head spin but I’ve narrowed it down to these three and curious what this community thinks. I know I may buy accessories for each that take the price over $250 but that’s not a problem. Thanks!

Looking mainly at single channel, as my truck has a bed cap so a rear channel likely wouldn’t see much through 3 layers of tinted glass and all the fiberglass. I live in north Georgia, summertime temps commonly reach mid 90s, so I probably don’t want a cam with a battery. I have aftermarket pillar gauges in my truck, and ran a extra switched power and constant when I installed them, anticipating getting a hardwired cam. 

Primarily interested in parking mode, clear picture, and ease of roadside use. 

From my research, the viofo has a far superior picture, but I’ve heard it’s app is lacking, and can be difficult/impossible to download clips off the cam while roadside, if a collision were to happen. 

On the other hand, what the blackvue gives up in picture, it gains in great app support. 

Am I understanding this right? Do you really need a computer to view the viofo clips?

Is there another cam that could be recommended in place of these?

Which camera?

  Wiring and installation involves some effort but the placement of connectors to keep wires out of the way was done thoughtfully. Get the hardwire kit. You'll be happy you did.

Camera quality is OK but software to transfer video is rubbish

 It's called loop recording. And how much it records, as in the number of hours or days, is dependent on three main factors. The resolution of the camera, the frame rate, and the size of the memory card. Obviously there's a maximum limit to the memory card, so once it fills up, no matter what the size, the cam will delete the oldest recorded file in order to make room for the new one

 Their series two line of dash cams range from the affordable 122 dash cam all the way up to the top of the line that'll be showing you today called the 522GW. Let's start with resolution. It offers 1440 resolution at 30 frames per second. This is better than HD but not quite as high as 4k

 So why would you want to get one of these things? Well if you ever find yourself in an accident or happen to witness an accident, everything is recorded right here and there's nothing better than being in one of those he said she said type situations than having video proof. Plus it might also help you out with an insurance claim. And when you're heading out on a road trip, something scenic, you can snap a photo or video and you can share it later. So now you know why you need one
