I am interested in buying a (at least) 13 inch e-ink tablet for my university studies. Currently, I only see myself reading PDF books with it. 

My requirements are the following:

* transfering PDF files from my computer (running Windows) to the tablet should be convenient

* filpping through nonconsecutive pages should be easy. I often switch between pages frequently (ie. turning from page 405 to 661 repeatedly to check my solutions to problem sets in the book)

What recommendations do you have for my needs?

Recommended 13 inch e-ink tablets?

Good tool for annotating PDFs. Ergonomic screen. Unfortunatelly unreliable.

I've used a Kindle Paperwhite for years, and more recently a Kobo Libra H20. They're great for reading fiction (or the more prose-based non-fiction), but not so good for reading academic journal articles or technically inclined books on software with their diagrams and such. I also had in mind the idea of reading sheet music.

So earlier this month I bought a 13.3 inch e-ink tablet (Boox Max Lumi 2). It seems pretty good for reading PDFs, but I haven't done a great deal of written annotation (more like just playing around with the notes, lol). I've seen videos on highlighting the text, but for my current PDFs I haven't had need of that yet. No issues using the stock overdrive app to get the PDFs and epubs from my computer to the device, and there are other options available without needing access to a store.

With the little experience that I've had so far, I'd say that my choice seems pretty good for what you have in mind, except for the fiction part: for that, I'd still prefer a smaller device like my Kindle Paperwhite.

I am basically looking for a device with such features:  


\- I am an academic so I am looking for a device that would work well for both academic texts and fiction  
\- Works with pdfs

I highly recommend Onyx Boox. The Note Air is a little above your budget, but is definitely big enough for pdfs. There are cheaper Onyx Boox e-readers that might work better for you, but I am not sure of their names

Last year, I received a hand-me-down kindle paperwhite, which revolutionized the way I read. Despite me loving the kindle, the lender used it without much regard for it in the long term (no case... etc.) So, I began to search for a new e-reader but was overwhelmed at the choice. I wasn't even aware that there were e-readers besides kindles. I would really love some assistance in searching for a new one and will list out some things I would like it to do/what I will use it for.

I am a history student in my junior year, and I read all my texts on my kindle. A few things I would like it to be able to do.

* Sideload books (I have used Calibre in the past)
* I would like a screen larger than the PW because reading pdfs can be relatively straining on the eyes. 
* comparable or better battery life than the PW
* I would like physical buttons, but I hear things like the Kobo Forma feel cheap
* sorta akin to the last point, a sturdy frame that doesn't feel cheap in my hand. The Paperwhite feels good.
* 300$ and under if possible.
* I'd like to try my hand at some Magna, so a capable e-reader would be nice (no need for color)\\
* ability to highlight and take notes (not when pen, just by dragging finger like on the kindle)
* No need for tablet features or android OS. I will simply be using it to read.
* The warm light is not a requirement, but I think it would be nice.
* I like to keep my tech in pristine condition, so I would love it to be compatible with a case and preferably have a sleep/wake case.
