 They do have a slightly smaller version that is closer to 38 Weir's and I Feel like this offers plenty of space for traveling for many weeks on end, and it does feel like something that you should be able to carry onto most airlines I've traveled a lot on Ryanair and easyJet and I typically saw people with these bags get on just fine. With that being said, I do feel that this is right on the end of what I would be comfortable carrying on with. and because this isn't as slim of a baggie to get a gate agent who's a little bit stricter, they may be more tempted to have you weigh the bag or just check it if it doesn't fit into one of those metallic racks. So pretty nice size overall

Best backpack?

I wanted to like this bag, and there are some things I do like, but the laptop compartment is a huge miss for me. I was looking for a pack to take with me to Borneo for 3 weeks. I managed to almost fit (but not) everything I wanted in to it, but it was like a stuffed sausage in the main compartment and a turtle overall. The small upper pocket worked well to hold my liquids, but what the heck could I put in the two sectioned laptop sleeve pocket? There are no small compartments, just a large zippered one and a large Velcro laptop one

 I managed to almost fit (but not) everything I wanted in to it, but it was like a stuffed sausage in the main compartment and a turtle overall. The small upper pocket worked well to hold my liquids, but what the heck could I put in the two sectioned laptop sleeve pocket? There are no small compartments, just a large zippered one and a large Velcro laptop one. So whatever you put in (unless it is a flat and long laptop or tablet) falls into the depths never to be seen again. I tried sticking my binoculars in but they just made it bulkier

wasted padding for non-tech geeks

Hello, a traveling noob here. I’ve only recently stumbled into this sub and one-baggers community in general. I’ve done extensive research since, however the amount of options is staggering and left me in a state of analysis paralysis, so I’ll appreciate your suggestions as to what best meets my needs. 

I am searching for backpacks for me and my girlfriend (I am 182 cm, she is petite and 167 cm). We need them for 3-4 day airplane trips as carry-ons, that can double as day-packs during those trips. Bonus points if I can use it as an EDC for commute. Obviously, they need not be the same one for both of us.

Neither of us is a fan of the tactical or hiking looks.

No hip belts please (or only detachable ones).

For her, the lighter and aesthetically pleasing the better. For me utility and comfort all the way.

We do not need space for cameras and the like (however if the functionality can be used for general organization, no problem here).

Budget is around 100-200 each.

3-day carry-ons for male and female

 Getting it on, I could not see the straps AT ALL. If I did not have a traveling companion I am not sure I would have gotten it on. I would have required a mirror. Once on the hip straps did their job and kept the weight off my shoulders

 I tried the shoulder strap, it was painful. No cushioning at all, and it dragged on my shoulder..

fully packed out it is heavy and cumbersome and straps are difficult to visualize and secure.

Looking for a 30-45L onebag that will work well for 3-5 day trips while flying. I understand I could fit that into a smaller bag, but some items I must bring during travel require a bit larger bag. Steel toe boots for instance (which I can wear, but then need to fit some tennis shoes into the bag). Laptop, etc. 

I'm not trying to get to the smallest bag possible, I'm trying to find a bag I can fly with that will accommodate items I need to bring and make life a bit simple (not doing laundry for instance). 

Non-exhaustive list of items I normally have on me while flying that need to fit into the bag:

* Pair of shoes
* Laptop
* Phone
* Headphones
* Switch (sometimes)
* 3-5 pair boxer and socks
* 3-5 pair khaki pants
* 3-5 polo shirts
* Power brick
* Toiletry dopp bag
* General items like keys, sunglasses, wallet (which can be on me and not in the bag).

I'm assuming this can fit into 30-45L pretty easily based on some of the crazy posts I've seen on here with folks traveling for 5 years with nothing but a toothpick and napkin. 

Please do note again, I want to keep pretty close to the list above and not make the post about trimming things I may not need. Thanks for any advice!
