 Before we begin, for all you fellow barbecue geeks out there, let me set the scene with a quick backstory to the evolution of PK grills. In the early 1950s, Hilton Maggs of Tyler, Texas made what many considered to be the perfect charcoal barbecue grill. He designed and manufactured a cast aluminium grill and smoker, calling it the Portable Kitchen, and sold it out of the back of his car in the American Mid-South.  That is really impressive and it shows just how sensitive to touch the PK Grills PK360 is to the slightest manipulations of the air vents here. So that's a wrap for this video. So far today we've seen how it rises to temperature, how it holds temperature, how we can throttle it down and how fast it will throttle back up again. As noted in the title, I discovered the joys of homemade bbq last summer, and I'm looking for some ideas on an entry-level bbq that I can use to bbq/smoke/grill various goodies. 

I had some mixed results last summer with a random charcoal bbq I got for free, and the most challenging parts were keeping up consistent smoke and maintaining temperature. 

I don't think I'm quite ready to fork out $1k on a new grill, but I'd love to know if anyone here has recommendations for a straight beginner.

Discovered BBQ last summer, looking for equipment recommendations

 If you are using the entire grill space for hot cooking, it will hold two chimneys of coals.  Because the PK360 has two top and two bottom vents and an accurate grill-level thermometer it is the king of two-zone cooking. With the coals on the right and the food on the left and the cover closed you control the temperature using the four vents. This allows you to do low and slow for ribs, butts and other true barbecue, or do outdoor roasting over coals at higher temperatures

 Bring the left side to 400 degrees and you can make a whole chicken that is better and more tender than the rotisserie chickens from the store.  When doing low and slow, the PK360 holds temperatures well, but not as long as an Egg or a Weber Smoker. On a six-hour cook, I find I have to add some coals. Also, when doing two-zone, I only have access to half the grill space for food and this limits my ability to do large amounts of food

After Three Years of Use

Get a 26” Weber kettle as your starting point or a PK 360 if you want something that will last literally forever. Kamado styles are great too

It's finally happened.  After being stuck in apartments for years having to use park charcoal grills and such I can now buy a smoker/grill.  Just wondering if anyone has suggestions for smoker/grill combos.  I don't need a freaking train sized one though, don't go crazy lol.
