 The bottom damper causes enamel to chip off (see photos of ash catcher, that's not ash). Weber needs to go back to the rivet design. Overall, I don't expect to have this grill as long as my previous Smokey Joe. Please Weber, go back to the drawing board a little on this

 The Jumbo Joe is flat on top. The bigger issue over the scratching is that because of the curved shape of the damper, when in the closed position, it leaves a gap allowing air to flow in and out.  I decided to contact Weber and the rep was trying to tell me that I'm being picky and should be happy with it. He said this model has been out forever and I am the first to complain (clearly not the case when searching online)

One week later it arrived and it was the exact same damper with the curved shape

 Weber needs to clean up it's QC act though. The sharp, stamped edges of the top vent cut right through the enamel into bare metal. I wet-sanded them to smooth out the edges, but the damage was already done. Also, the curvature of the top vent didn't match the lid, leaving big air gaps

 That is until we opened the box and saw that someone had returned this item after they used it, with barely a swipe with a wet something. Ugh. Sadly had to return. But it didn't beat the vacuum that we received-a wet filter with animal overtones
