The Plugable 4K USB C Docking Station is a vertically oriented device that hosts a variety of ports supporting a wide range of peripherals, including 3 monitors with resolutions of 4K @ 60Hz. The unit has both HDMI and display ports for each screen and an alternate USB-C downstream port. Finally, there are 4 USB 3.0 ports supporting 5 Gbps and a Gigabit Ethernet port. These ports are most commonly used by fixed peripherals and, as such, are located on the back of the device. This design helps to keep the desktop tidy. However, there are 4 ports on the front of the device that are associated with devices that will be regularly unplugged. These are headphone and microphone jacks, as well as USB-C and SD card ports.
The main issue with the Plugable is that it has USB-C ports where we would have liked to see Thunderbolt ports. This is what keeps this otherwise high-end device a bit less expensive. As the Plugable's upstream USB-C port is limited to 10 Gbps, there could be some data bottlenecking issues for those pushing this device to its maximum capability. However, this likely will not be the case for most users. Aside from this minor issue, this slender device is one of our favorites — especially when desktop space is at a premium.

I really, really wanted to like this docking station. I've been a plugable customer for years with their usb 3.0 docking station which worked great despit it's limited speed. I used three monitors (two plugged into the dock and one directly to the laptop)

My job recently upgraded my laptop to one of the latest HP laptops (which works perfectly), and I figured it was time to look at a new docking station

 The HP docking station I have at the office worked great, and I looked at this one to get the benefits of only having to plug one USB C cable into the laptop, so all I had to do was grab the laptop and go back and forth between home and the office.  The good: When it works, it works. There was no lagging, my wireless USB mouse and keyboard, webcam, and other stuff worked great. Super fast and charged well

 (2) My work VPN prevents me from installing the DisplayLink Manager for the same reasons as that of streaming platforms, and thus I have to still connect everything to my macbook pro directly. (3) It only has one HDMI and two DISPLAYPORTs, when it is more common and cheaper to use HDMI.  Bad that they did not allow you to use even just one screen and other devices like a mouse and a keyboard without requiring this application. In this case it is too expensive for satisfying only one purpose

This is doubly frustrating because the loss of video signal prompts the drooling-idiot child that is Windows to collect all the applications into one screen, so that I have to redistribute app windows across multiple monitors every time I bounce the Plugable box

Increasing Instability after 18 months

Had high hopes

 So I am down 2 usb ports which I need. I don't like that it does not have a power on off switch either, and trying to figure out why the Display port would not work. The DP may have been a laptop issue, not sure.

 Still trying to figure out how this is a USB-C and not a thunderbolt. But my son was using it for about a week now and one set of the usb's seem like are malfunctioning and Windows is throwing up a error because of it and not connecting to it. I have a lot of experience with the Plugable docking stations over the past 8 years. We purchase them for use around the office. They have been solid and dependable. However, this is my first experience with the 4K USB C model

Great Device, but graphics are under powered.

I got this for work. As others reports I had random disconnects. The directions in box does state you should download a driver but I'm unable to do this as they remove local admin from our laptops. Other than that it worked great and I'm sure the driver would bring stability
