I like this as an all-round setup for just about any source material. CXN for streaming, CXC for CDs, a Rega Planar 3 (upgraded to an Ortofon 2M Black cartidge) in into a Cambridge Duo phono pre for LPs. All into a CXA81 and out to the B+Ws. It feels pretty balanced and all the components play well to each others’ strengths.

So I decided to go back to one of the original TT's I'd always wanted from the start of my search which was the Rega Planar 3. As luck would have it I found a local stockist who I went to visit and had possibly one of the best purchasing experiences possible. At this point all I need was the TT, Phono preamp and cabling for speakers. The guy in the shop worked around my budget to offer the best possible cartridge for the Planar 3 from the list of one's I had heard good things about which ended up being the Sumiko Pearl.

It sounded okay on the last setup, but listening to it through the new system, especially when being compared to what streaming sounds like through it, is a bit of a non event. Probably going to pick up a Rega Planar 3 or Pro-Ject Evo Pro, although I have absolutely gone through all my audio budget for the next little while at least 🙂.

About a month ago I talked myself into the Rega Planar 3 over on the right side of the desk, and it was by far the best audiophile decision I have ever made. The difference between this tt and my previous Stanton are astounding.

so this is it: my fresh first setup, I've been dreaming about vinyl for years. This subreddit really helped me, I was not sure whether should I go with Planar 2 or Planar 3, but in the perspective and thinking about upgrades, I think Planar 3 was not a bad choice. Now it sounds absolutely perfect for me with HD650, maybe later I will grab some speakers too, but I would like to leave my neighbours in rest :D I am also thinking about upgrading my cartridge (Elys 2) to something better, I read that Ortofon catridges (bronze, black) sound unbelievably better. But I have to research this a lot more, it is just a beginning for me in this absolutely huge vinyl world.

The 3 is a potential money pit as you can upgrade it to the full Planar 6 spec. I find the 2 is pretty good and luckily I caught an ex-demo one at around 25% off. Plenty of other options, though, so worth checking some out. I tend to favour belt-drive, and the Rega being UK-made was a plus for me.
