The bottom line here is that the S6 Max-V's Reactive AI works. It's not perfect, but it does work reasonably well according to our testing.

The Roborock S6 MaxV is a well-built robot vacuum with excellent automation features. It has a unique 'ReactiveAI' feature that uses two cameras on the front of the vacuum to identify obstacles and move around them. It delivers great performance on bare floors and comes with a mopping attachment, although we don't test it currently. Unfortunately, its overall performance on carpets is mediocre.

Personally I think the bigger problem with mops was solved with the S7 which is a lifting mopping pad. It is a game changer when your robot needs to cross over carpet or rugs to mop floors on the other side. Obstacle avoidance is ok but I stopped mopping with my S6 MaxV once my S7 came along.

There's an onboard surface detection system that enables it to automatically change its suction power mode depending on the surface type that it's on, which is helpful if you have any small rugs on your tile floors. However, while the vacuum feels very well-built, many parts need regular cleaning or replacing, including its brushroll, side brush, mop cloth, and allergen-trapping HEPA filter.

The S6 MaxV is slightly quieter because of the bristle brush instead of the rubber brush of the S7. I keep the S6 MaxV as my main device.

Since you have a toddler I’d recommend going with the upgrade from mine, the Roborock S6 MaxV from what I hear it’s amazing at avoiding obstacles toddlers create such as toys on the floor.
