I’m browsing for an external SSD to store Xcode and Logic Pro files (I own a Mac Mini M1). The most popular ones, such as Samsung T5, have recent reviews claiming they’re painfully slow on M1, or that they don’t work at all on MacOS Monterrey. I’ve also seen complaints about newer models, such as the T7, affecting the performance of other peripherals, and getting insanely hot.

Any tips on how to get things organized? Should I be storing things on external drives? If so, what should go where? And what type of connection? I'd like to check out things like Superior drummer 3 but again the storage issue has me hesitant. thnx for any help!

So the one I've actually got here that you see in the video is a 500GB edition but it also comes in 250GB, 1TB and 2TB, now price wise they'll get expensive at their top 1 or 2TB editions, but if you're someone that's ever owned a Mac, you'll get a 2GB or 2GB version. Now if you're looking for a 2GB or 2GB version, you'll get a 2GB or 2GB version, but if you're looking for a 2GB or 2TB version, you'll get a 2GB or 2GB version, but if you're someone that's ever owned a MacBook Pro then you guys and girls especially will know that the storage gets way more expensive if you wanted to build that into your MacBook Pro than the price that you would actually pay for one of these. Now connection wise in the box we get two USB cables which are USB A to C and USB C to C, so if you're running these with the latest mobile phones, motherboards in your PC or MacBooks then you'll be getting the fastest transfer speeds possible

The previous version, the Samsung T3, was a favourite among video creators who needed a lot of fast stores for editing their video on the go. Now with creators using 4K more than ever, the newer Samsung T5 is the perfect solution, especially for those looking for a scratch disk to do video editing on the fly. Now on the Samsung T5 we actually get the second generation USB 3

 It's also about the same size, weight, width and thickness, but personally I love the blue colour of the T5. I think it's something that really gives it a more premium look compared to its older version and whilst you can get it in black when you go for the one on the two terabyte ones, I just think that the blue on this looks fantastic. Now when it comes to actual performance, you'll see a read and write speed of approximately 540 and 510 megabytes respectively if you're using a USB 3.1 Gen 2

I bought my first harddrive today, because our university is moving systems, so I wanted to keep all the materials our teachers gave us.
I bought a Samsung TD 5, and it is absurdly small, the fact that you can have you whole computer in your palm is mind-blowing. 
This means that you can have your computer storage set up extremely simple, with only the most needed ready.
Honestly this seems like heaven for a minimalist. Complete freedom. No more mountains of books, no more hills of paper sheets, just complete freedom. 
To take your current life with in the palm of your hand, that must be freedom. 

I'm am probably a bit overexcited but to me, it is amazing.

Just got my first harddrive and it is amazing

 For reference, after tweaking (see below) I ran CrystalDiskMark on my T5 (1 TB version) and got 449 sequential read/write, 270 random IIRC. But in real life practice, transferring 66GB of videos and photos from the Samsung to my internal SSD went at an average rate of 100 MB/s, with spikes up to 170 and lows in the 80's. Transferring to my backup HDD was even slower, averaging in the 50's with low in the teens. This leads me to my next point

..  -Configuration of your source (PC): As mentioned, the transfer speeds will only be as quick as your weakest link. In my case, I had some changes to make before I achieved the above scenario

Specifically, my internal SSD was setup incorrectly, being connected to the sub-optimal SATA connection on my motherboard

 Plugging the unit straight in and transferring the same photos/videos crawled along at ~9'ish MB/s, with dips into the hundreds of KB/s range. 1. An easy and quick fix was Device Manager --> Disk Drives (Samsung T5 SSD) --> Properties --> Policies --> change the "Removal Policy" setting from "Quick Removal" to "Better Performance". This requires you to use the "Safely eject media" option whenever you disconnect or risk damaging the drive

EDIT 2/7/2020:  Not worth the price, not even on sale.  Save your money, go with another option.

 But either way, I'm actually really impressed with this device, obviously in terms of comparing it to a SATA SSD, it's obviously considerably smaller, doesn't need SATA power or data, you just use your USB Type-C connection, and you can plug it into your mobile device as well. They have a whole load of Android phones that come pre-listed and pretty available to use with this, so if you want to use it as an on-the-go storage, which two terabytes on your phone, pretty crazy, then you can do that too. When it comes to the scoring for me, this is actually really impressive. I'm going to go with the 4

 Are you after a small portable SSD that you can take around with you and plug into your phone? Well, Samsung has been covering you in this platform for quite a while with their T1 SSDs and even their T3s. This one, the T5 is a new generation, still uses USB Type-C, which is actually pretty awesome and now comes with a Type-C to Type-C cable as well as Type-C to Type-A, which means that you can use this with your desktop or with your mobile device or any other combination, which is actually pretty awesome. Thanks to that Type-C port, you actually get USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds, which means that when we take a look at the benchmark results in a second, you'll notice a decent improvement overall in terms of the speeds, meaning that this is basically the same speed as a standard SATA SSD

 Starting off with ATTO on the left, you can see that we're running about 470 to 480 megabytes per second on both reads and writes, and it's fairly consistent through the whole range. Looking at crystal disk mark, you're looking at 410 to 402 at read and write respectively, and a fairly similar number in AS SSD as well. When you're looking at reading and writing actually to the SSD, you're looking at about 300 megabytes per second on average, although actually writing back to the SSD was pretty ridiculously fast. Also, just to make a note, if you are running on USB 3
