 I have seen Thule of the same type and it is much better designed and uses soft solicone rubber as contact to car. the only two positive things about Saris Bones is very universal fit and low weight. The rest needs design revision and proper corrections for actual moving car condition and weight of bicycles. Now I am not expert, but I lost hotch with SUV and comparing thses to Yakima 4-bike hiitch mounted rack is like a poor mans lego counterfeit toy to advanced and polished design mechanics

 Anyway this may not matter as they are probably designed to hold pieces when monting rac, but definitely not when 70-90 lbs weight is swining on rack while car is moving 50mph. Those are toy grade screws that do not hold anythong. I think that this needs improvement with bolting arms to shaft when you figuer out positions or at minimum using some rubber strip with large pipe clamps(4 of them) to keep those "bones" steady and not shofting while car is moving. A lot to be desired from designers of the rack

Good idea - poor design (safety concern... can be corrected by user with extra changes)

..Buy yourself some velcro straps for your front and rear wheels so that it wont spin and wobble left and right and scratch your bumper. That's where good old Walmart comes in!!  WARNING

Great product BUT one major complaint.....

Yeaaaah,, so I hate this thing. I'm giving it 3 stars because I failed to read the compatibility list before buying it. A hatch back is a hatch back right? Well, apparently not. The primary vehicle I was planning on using this on is not on the compatibility list, and it REALLY doesn't fit/work well

My other car IS on the list (a sedan) and it still is sloppy/awkward and scares me half to death any time I'm using it. I only use it for VERY short trips and my eyes are GLUED on the rear view mirror because I know that I'm just one pot hole from a disaster

It took about two whole weeks for me to get the replacement back, which in my opinion is ridiculous considering I live three hours from the Saris location. After a week and a half I emailed them again and apparently my replacements were just sitting in the warehouse, making me wonder if I would have ever gotten them back if I hadn't emailed them

The rack seemed well-made of quality materials. Unfortunately, I found it so frustrating to install that I ultimately decided to just give up and return it. This rack is specifically rated as being compatible with my car (a 2015 Honda CRV) and many other reviews described it as easy to use. This was not the case for me

I like the idea, but 2 of our 3 bikes don't fit well (a Linus Mixte 3i) or at all (a kid's bike). The Linus was the heaviest of the three so we mounted it nearest the car, as instructed. But its frame makes it hard to secure using a single set of straps, and the handlebar brake lever immediately tore a scratch down the back of our windshield. Also, despite the fit guide stating that our car (2016 Honda CR-V) was a match, the side latches don't hook on to the trunk as snugly as I'd like

  The system Saris uses to secure the bike is infinitely easier than any Yakima product.

  You would think someone with 30 years experience with bikes & racks would be able to fit it in less than an hour.  The way the straps go in / out of the main tube are unclear in the miniscule instructions.  This should be an intuitive process.  Once all the adjustments were done, it worked very well

Good product - Instructions Useless!!

So I'm a little frustrated not because of the quality of the product, but because I didn't know about the vehicle fit guide prior to purchasing. I wanted a three bike rack, but for my vehicle, a Mazda CX-5 this three bike rack has a 2 bike/70 lb limit, completely defeating the purpose of my getting the rack, so I can go biking with my boys. Instead, now I'm going to try to return and get the super bones 3, which can support 3 bikes even for my car. Look at the fit guide on Saris

 It did not fit the back of our sports car very well. Maybe it fits better on an SUV, but if you have an SUV, then why would you need a rack? Anyway, wife thought it was way to much of a hassle to install, and the straps were difficult to adjust. The plastic supports sagged under the weight of even one bike. Returned it, and will probably get a roof mount style
