 I keep this one standing in the corner just in case it's my in case gun It's empty And I'll give you my two cents worth before we start shooting here This little tie strap you get them 100 on for two bucks great chamber flags Multi-use what can you say it's about as ambidextrous as the rifle, but anyway what I have is a Chinese manufacturer SKS It's one I've shot before you go out and do some planking with it 200 yards every now and then Try my luck. I like to train with different platforms, and this is about as different as you can get from an AR I've got some Russian steel cased ammo. I'm just going to load it singly It's been a while since I've shot this one, and I can say I've actually never shot it fast, so Got my shooting glasses on I've got my targets down range here at the usual distance So I'm gonna try to put six rounds on that center target as fast as I can pull the trigger on his SKS And see if it can stay up with my finger, or it's going to be faster It's going to be interesting. I have never shot this thing fast, so Let's go ahead and hammer that target in the middle See what we got Now that was an interesting conclusion I loaded six fired five Let me find my flag here, let me go ahead and flag it Oh Flag where are you here you go all right chamber clear We'll show you something It spit the last round out so Last round flew out of the top of the rifle would lock to the rear position, so we're safe Let's go down take a look at the target

Yep, they're all there Let's go back and look at the timer here 18, 16, so we're doing about a 1,700 splits in between shots, so So that's running about a little bit under a second there for six rounds on target What I'm noticing as a shooter is it's got a real long and slow recoil cycle It's not really abrupt, but it stays stays cycling a long time I guess it's the weight of the boat and the way the gas system is it has a relatively long impulse Not much recoil, but it just takes it a long time to shoot that makes any sense I'm used to light boats in an AR so totally different platform So we got six on the target in the second Of course, we got to try two on each in a second so Without fiber optic sights or a scope is going to be a challenge. This was the big thing The soviets were looking for was a semi-automatic platform that gave them 10 rounds under the finger Between reloading the big advancement between the five shot bolt action nagant, so This is what they were trying to get away from and this is what they eventually went to in 1945 And I think they issued it up until the 50s Until the ak-47 came into into full production and the sks were pretty much Uh second line guns used for uh training and such like that

I am new here and just trying to get advice.

My wife and I are feeling that we should get a few firearms added to our preps.  We currently do not have any and we are not big on guns.  We don't expect to be collectors or have a huge armory. We just want to be able to hunt and protect ourselves if SHTF. We want to have a handgun for each of us, a rifle for hunting and a decent supply of ammo to start so we can get comfortable shooting them.  Brands or New/Used doesn't matter except for the fact it should be legally purchased and reasonably obtainable at that price.  We live in Wisconsin.

The budget is a firm $1000. 

What should we get?  Are there accessories that we should be considering?

<div class="md"><p>UPDATE 2:   Thanks for all the help and suggestions.  My wife and I went with 2 Taurus G3Cs ($270 - $25 rebate) and a Rossi RS22 ($130).  The G3Cs come with 3 12 rd mags and I plan to buy a 17rd for mine.  The Rossi only comes with a 10rd Mag, but pro-mag has a compatible 25rd that i will get to try it.  But I will be getting at least 3 more mags for it.  </p>

<p>FYI: We are scheduled for CCW class which includes basic safety and range portion.</p>

$1000 Firearms challenge

 Just make sure your bolt faces out. There's only one way that it will fit. When you're putting it down into this slot it's a little bit tricky. So we're going to drop the bolt in and then I'm going to slip in the bolt carrier

 Take your recoil spring, go ahead and put it through. Next we're going to take our dust cover. Make sure that this is in the up position back here at the back and push on your dust cover. Just like that

I've shot SKS's and LOVED them but their prices have risen and im wondering if there's better choices. The rifle would be used for training at the range (obviously), doomsday prepping because I'm a larper at heart but try not to let it show, and possibly hunting in the future (nobody in my family hunted since we are polish immigrants, but I've always been interested, and don't know all the regulations just yet). Any help is appreciated!

<p>P.S. i love both AK and AR platforms, shot both, prefer the AK, but i don&#39;t want my dog shot because I want a cool pew pew boomstick so i have been keeping away from those.</p>
