Sony a6100

I've looked around online and the Sony a6100 seems like a good choice. Now the kit lens that comes with it I've heard isn't the best, but for a starter like me I think it's good enough. Some time down the road, if I stick with this, I'd like to go for a macro lens. Additionally, I'm teaching a course online, and could use this camera as a webcam (with camlink)so that my lectures look better, it's something I care for.

The Sony a6100 with the kit lens is about 850USD new, so not much extra, if you get that used you'll be able to buy some accessories, but it will still be more expensive than any of the Lumix cameras. Sony has a significant advantage in videa AF and a slight one in low light (more precisely high ISO performance). I personally would not recommend the EOS M50 as it is worse in low light than the Panasonic, it loses the advantage of having good AF if you record in 4K, it has no IBIS and it isn't weather-sealed and there aren't a lot of native lenses for the system. Personally, I think Panasonic offers more for less, but if you need good AF for sure, then get one of the Sony cameras.

If used is OK, I would suggest a Sony a6100 (4K, selfie screen and external mic input) and a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 lens. Both can be had for $900 off FB Marketplace. You just need to shop. If you do not need 4K, selfie screen, or external mic input a Sony a6000 can be had for less than $400.

I recently picked up a Sony a6100 from a pawnshop. Got a wicked good deal on it too.

I can highly recommend the Sony a6100 in combination with the Pergear 60mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro lens. I purchased this lens myself and made a review on my channel: https://youtu.be/psU7SOME5Kk. This is really great quality for a relatively small budget.

I’m aware that the a6100 is a superior camera to the a6000, but the improvements made seem to weigh heavily in favour of shooting video (4k, external mic input, no limit on recording footages, flip-up screen, improved AF, etc.). Some of the improvements are attractive though - silent shutter (this just seems like it’s a handy option to have), improved AF, better low light performance, etc.

I for one would buy a used Sony a6100 (selfie screen, shoots 4K and has an external mic input). I have seen them on FB Marketplace for $600. As far as a lens, for my first lens, I would get a normal one like the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and that is $200-300 off FB Marketplace.

I've been looking at the Sony a6100. I also get that I'm buying into a lens system and I like the Sony's options.
