Sony a7 IV

* grip is a whole different feel, camera feels a LOT bigger (but is an improvement). * the black of the exposure dial is 'blacker' than the other ones, not sure if this is intentional but it kinda stands out. * camera feels quite a bit more sturdy, especially the different buttons really feel like they're built to last, big change from the A7 III. * love the feel of the thumbstick, don't quite like the exposure dial missing the numbers now (I know it's customisable now).

I didn't buy it. Now for the Sony system, I'm dithering there. I think full frame isn't worth having for me. The one stop of noise hit you get isn't a big deal, and the improved performance just isn't worth it until you get to the A7R or A7S type use cases.

The tools and ergonomics felt exactly right - and I really enjoyed the fully articulating screen (which I didn't expect). Images that I reviewed in the field (on the back LCD) seemed to be extremely accurate to how the raw would appear in LR. Additionally, the starting point of the camera's color rendition felt more natural to my editing style - Making it extremely easy to push the image toward my desired end result.

Sony cameras didn't feel right ergonomically, and while they got a big head start with mirrorless technology, Nikon and Canon have caught up and Sony is now stuck with limitations like their inferior mount. The A7 IV release seems to be a total yawn. Who knows what the market share will look like in a few years, but I think Nikon's system will only get stronger.

That being said, the A7 IV is a top of the line brand new model, if you did buy one and didn't know much about photography you wouldn't get your monies worth of out it, since you would shoot most of it's rated lifespan learning, that's not what those cameras are really meant for. I'd say get something older but still higher end that will also work with your existing canon lenses, like a 7D, but have you considered if your current gear is really limiting you?

Today, I decided to make the switch from Nikon to Sony. I'm working to sell/trade my D7500 with the 16-80mm f/2.8-4 VR kit lens (a damn good lens) and I've pre-ordered an A7 IV, body only. I'm currently considering what lenses I plan to buy. I do a lot of landscapes and waterfalls in the Colorado Rockies, as well as portraits.
