 The C100 has a 4K sensor that downscales, so you get most of the benefit of the extra resolution anyway and you also get the benefit of it being a dedicated video camera with full use of your EF lenses. Since my wife is a wedding and portrait photographer and we share gear, the only cost-effective way for us to do so is if we stick with a single brand. So it would take a lot for us to completely switch. I'm not saying we never will, we're just mostly happy with our setup right now and don't have clients asking me for 4K yet

 Plus, this gives you an additional battery slot to use both batteries the camera comes with at the same time, which you'll really need. I was only able to get somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes out of each battery with continuous use shooting in 4K, so it takes some getting used to. You can work around this by just buying a lot of the $50 batteries, though. If you're going to invest in a mirrorless camera, consider getting its AC power adapter

 But, if you're just getting started or want to upgrade from a point-and-shoot like an RX100 or an entry-level mirrorless or DSLR camera and you're not going to kit it out like I just described, this camera is a great option for the price. Now, would I recommend switching from the Canon ecosystem to Sony for a camera like the A7S II? The image quality in this camera is really great and at 4K is much better than anything from Canon in this price range, other than maybe the X-E10, which doesn't have interchangeable lenses at all. If you're currently shooting video on DSLRs like the 70D, 60 or 5D Mark III, this camera will feel like a major upgrade, both in image quality and in how you'll shoot with it. If you have a lot of EF lenses and you're invested in Canon though, I really like my C100 Mark II and even the Mark I version despite only being able to record in 1080p

 Is jumping up to 4K and shooting to a mirrorless camera from the DSLR worth it? Let's find out in this review of the Sony A7S II. In this video review, I'll cover what S-Log video settings I recommend filming in, my experience using EF lenses with the Metabones adapter, how some of the biggest problems with filming on this camera can be overcome, and whether I'd recommend someone switching to Sony or mirrorless cameras for making videos.   3. Crap battery life - Each pack lasts on average an hour with continuous use (1080p), which is not all that terrible. But it makes you feel anxious and having to check the percentage of the battery all the time is just another thing to worry about when using this camera.  4

An honest to god opinion of the A7S II after a year's worth of ownership

 Otherwise, considering that the A7 III and A7C both have the same exact video features as the A7S II, the exact same 4K resolution, exact same codec, exact same bitrate, exact same frame rate options, but they build on that camera with stellar autofocus and incredibly long battery life and an upgrade path to use those batteries into the future. That's why I don't recommend you purchase the Sony A7S II. In conclusion, let me wrap this up and throw one more wrench into your buying decision making process by saying that if you have room in your budget and you want a camera that will solidly beat all of these cameras that I've talked about today, stop agonizing over which one to buy and just buy a Sony A7S III. It's better than all these cameras in basically every single way

 I don't consider it reliable enough for professional work, so for the five years that the A7S II is my primary camera, I basically only used manual focus and pretended the autofocus didn't exist. Unfortunately, Sony recognized that autofocus was a shortcoming, and just a few years later, they released the A7 III. A camera that contains many of the same video features as the A7S II, but it also includes a much improved phase-detect autofocus system that is light years better than the A7S II's. I actually trust the A7 III's autofocus

 Factor in that I also recommend only using name-brand Sony batteries to prevent incompatibilities, and you're looking at spending hundreds of dollars on batteries for this camera as well. I currently own 12 batteries for my two A7S IIs, that's $600 in batteries at today's current prices, and I actually paid more whenever I bought many of these batteries several years ago when they were more expensive. Let's contrast this battery life now with Sony's newer cameras. The A7 III and A7C, as well as most of Sony's other newer cameras as well, use the new NP-FZ100 batteries, which are significantly larger and offer two and a half to three times the battery life of the NP-FW50s the A7S II uses

 I think it works quite well, and it makes the A7 III a very compelling choice over the A7S II. Likewise, the newer Sony A7C is even cheaper than the A7 III, and also includes a similar autofocus system, and I think that's a great choice over the A7S II as well. Moving on now, let's go into the second reason that I don't recommend the A7S II. Because whereas you may have not thought the autofocus is that big of a deal, you can get by with manual focus, that's what Hollywood does, well, this second reason here is a huge deal, and I guarantee it will affect you if you purchase the A7S II

As someone who enjoys taking video as much as they enjoy taking photos, my prior experience with DSLRs and mirrorless cameras brought me to the Sony A7SII.  The most recent camera I had prior to this device was the Panasonic GH4. The GH4 is an amazing mirrorless camera for video and takes great pictures for the price. However, as someone who travels often and does a lot of Run & Gun videography, the image stabilization and low-light of the GH4 left me desiring more

  - Lens Choices ($) Sony is doing a great job with introducing new lenses but they won't be as inexpensive as Canon/Nikon or even Panasonic.  - PlayMemories Apps For the price you pay, these apps (e.g., Time Lapse) should have been included for no charge

  - Size/Portability Not that the GH4 was huge or anything but the A7S is smaller and more compact.  There are some bad elements.  I will try not to re-iterate ALL the same comments from others in these reviews (they said it better than I could have) but I will emphasize the following:  - Battery Life I get about 45-85 minutes of usage with Sony batteries. This is abysmal coming from the GH4

Excellent Portable, Low-Light, IBIS Mirrorless Camera

 Internal 4K recording means you don't have to bring an external recorder. Sensor stabilization means much better handholding with unstabilized lenses, like those fast primes you might use in low-light conditions or to blur the background.  Let's see what this low-light monster can do. First, here's your Too Long Didn't Watch summary. For $3,000, the A7S II can produce similar results to camera systems costing ten times more. Filmmakers on four-figure budgets can use it to take full advantage of the thousands of relatively inexpensive, sharp and fast 35mm SLR lenses to get clean, low-light video in 4K, deep at background blur, and a massive dynamic range

 An $8,000 Sony FS7 is a much better overall video camera with far better usability and 60 frames a second at 4K. However, it has a smaller sensor and won't give you quite the same background blur or clean video in low light. If you want great video and stills, the $3,200 A7R II is almost as good at video and far better at stills. In fact, we prefer the A7R II for video in good light because we can shoot 4K in either full frame or APS-C modes, which lets us zoom in tighter when we need to

 New York City is too well lit at night to push the limits of the A7S II, so to get realistic footage at high ISOs, we brought it back to our hotel. At low ISOs, we didn't notice any image quality differences. At higher ISOs, the A7S II was a full-stop cleaner than the original A7S paired with the Shogun. The A7S is about five stops cleaner than the GH4, three stops cleaner than the A7R II in full frame mode, and two stops cleaner than the A7R II in APS-C mode

They shoot a lot of their videos at night so does anyone have any recommendations for cameras that work well in low light situations around $500-700?

Affordable low light cameras for around $500-700?

 Sony has separated it's photo-focused model and video-focused model maybe more-so than the other brands. *Battery life is notoriously short. But luckily batteries are pretty cheap so get a bunch and a dual charger. I also got the portrait grip to avoid changing batt's so frequently

 PROS: *The footage looks great. *4k at 24 or 30 fps. *1080p slow motion. *Internal stabilization for handheld

  CONS: *The recording button for video is not where your thumb or pointer finger rests. The recording button is on the side of the camera and flush with the body, not raised. So you almost have to look away from the screen to hit record than readjust if you are not on a tripod. This is insane

 The smaller body did leave the battery compartment covered up by some of my mounts (moreso than the Canon 5dmk3) so I had to disassemble by setup sometimes to change batteries. Part of the reason I bought the portrait grip is to avoid that, since the batteries load in from the side.  SUMMARY: I had the Canon 5dmk3 and despite the quirks of the A7s II the image quality is a big upgrade and I'm happy with it. It has it's oddities, but Sony has the electronics clout to move fast with technology

Great camera with a few quirks

 It was this video more than any other that made me want to purchase this camera. So of course I bought one, filmed my first wedding with it and it didn't look nearly as good. It was a wedding where it was cloudy and rainy with the sunset turning all the landscape orange and I don't think my footage looked any way as good as that beach video. But even with that, I knew that the A7S II was capable of what I saw on that beach video and I was so excited about that
