The Sony RX100 VII is one of the most capable cameras that you can slip into your pocket, primarily thanks to its impressive autofocus. The VII's lens covers the 24-200mm range, its tilting LCD and mic input are well-suited for vlogging, and the pop-up EVF is incredibly useful when shooting outdoors.
While not amazing in low light due to the lens's slow aperture range, image quality is generally excellent, with pleasing colors, good detail capture and wide dynamic range. The RX100 VII's 4K video quality is very good, as well.
Where the RX100 VII really stands out is its autofocus system, which is the most advanced of any compact on the market. Just point it at a subject - whether it's a body, face or eye, and the camera will follow it around the scene seamlessly. And it can do this at 20 frames per second.
Handling is the main area about which we have mixed feelings. The user interface is complex, buttons are too small, and the body is slippery and easy to drop. The RX100 VII is expensive for a compact camera, but if you need its 'capture-the-action' capabilities, then you won't be disappointed with your purchase.

It features probably the best autofocus systems we've ever encountered in a compact camera, meaning the little Sony can turn its hand to almost anything you might come across on your travels. There's also a fairly easy-to-use Wi-Fi system to send images to your phone.
Video is also good - thanks to the camera using the full-width of the sensor - and rolling shutter is minimal. Also, the lack of an ND filter means having to use higher shutter speeds than is ideal in bright conditions, potentially leaving your footage looking less professional than it might. Overall, though, the RX100 VII is the most capable travel camera on the market: nothing matches its combination of size, capability and image quality.

This is a really small camera though, but it packs a lot of power onto it and that is a pretty unique camera in in and of itself. However, because of the smooth exterior, it does make it harder to hold, even when this little grip around the back of the camera is around it

 I'm not one to usually take advantage of a zoom like this, but this is actually pretty impressive to say the least considering how far out it can actually go. I never, really. I never really realized how cool it would be to have a zoom like this. Now, for macro shots like this, this camera does struggle to focus a bit more and it is quite noticeable, at least on my unit

The G5 X Mod 2 also has a viewfinder while the G7 X Mark 3 mic input, but the Sony zooms much longer both phase detector autofocus. that's more confident whether you're shooting stills or video not to mention much quicker bursts and high frame rates for super slow motion
