That said, if you are planning on using those lenses then you will get more out of it with the R. If you want to do video, the R is far superior. I've used the R more than the RP. The RP makes a great combo with the EF 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 100mm 2.8 macro, RF 35mm 1.8, RF 50mm 1.8, RF 85mm 2.0, RF 24-240mm, and other lenses in this range, from a budget perspective.

Sony FE 85mm 1.8 for portraits. That lens is really good for the price and beats the 35mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.8 at taking portraits with very good bokeh and background compression. Makes your subject pop nicely.

The extra sharpness wide-open and the better focus and build mean nothing if the lens just ends up staying on your shelf or in your bag all the time. There's no question the f/1.8 is inferior but if the size and/or cost means you'll actually get it *and use it* then obviously that is the part that matters most and makes the f/1.8 much more worthwhile. Personally, I've owned the f/1.2 and borrowed the f/1.8 for a little while.

While the EF 85mm 1.8 is a great lens, for me personally the IS makes the RF version totally worthwhile. Indoor portraits will be that much sharper with the IS, and I doubt you'll miss that little bit of aperture. You won't have to deal with the EF adapter any longer, and have the benefit of more up to date electronics and coatings. It's up to you of course to determine if those things are worth it or not.
