 So in most wind I've been fine, there have been times in extremely very high winds where I have put a windshield which is quite common for these little stoves anyhow. So those are the two main components of my cook set up here, I've got the pots, the stove and then inside what I do love about this pot is that I can fit 110 gram gas canister inside so you can chuck that one inside, not have it rattling around in your pack and also I've got a little canister stabiliser and I think this is quite important you know from my experience, if it's quite grassy or the ground's not even, chuck one of these on and it just keeps everything nice and solid, keeps your pot up on top, the last thing you want is to lose your dinner while you're trying to cook it up. So what we're going to do now is take a look at what it looks like to set up and actually cook something, grab your stove, knock that one down and then you're going to thread it until it catches which I think it's caught, spin it a little and then right at the end just as it's about to go on you want to just do a quick twist, you'll hear a little bit of gas coming out, that's normal, that's fine, just do that quickly, keep as much gas in there as possible. So often times you know I'll cook directly out of my cup, if I'm just having a brew, a tea, cup of soup, something like that, I'll just sit my cup directly on there, pour the water in, boil it up, if I'm cooking a meal and I've got a bit more water I will throw it in the pot, measure up the water here and then put it in there, easy as that

So with the little gas regulator here that comes on the Soto Amicus stove, what you can do is chuck it down onto low and just have it a bit of a simmer, so there's just a little bit of heat coming out of there, it's great if you've got oats or something in your pot and you don't want them to burn to the bottom and then if you're trying to boil up water very quickly or if you've got a few people waiting on the water, chuck that one right up

 It is pretty loud, something some people comment about. I'm going to turn on some wind. All right, so I'm going to turn on the fan here. First we'll put it on low

 So let's focus on what makes the Amicus stand out. First off is its low cost. I think it is very low cost and it is very high quality. Two things that don't always come together

 You're still going to want to use some kind of a general windscreen. I tend to use just things around me like rocks or trees, trying to keep things as much out of the wind as possible. If you do that, you're smart about where you set it up and you use this kind of integrated wind resistant design Soto, you're going to be in good shape. So in the end, it's the smaller size that I think gives it the edge over the Pocket Rocket Deluxe and although it may not boil water just as fast, I think it's pretty negligible and the pros outweigh the cons

 So you open it and it pops down. When you bring it back, you just spring it and it pops into place. This Shin Fuji burner design is specific to Soto. It's got this outer lip that helps a good deal with wind resistance

 So I've always got a lighter and I've got a ferro rod but when you're squatting down cooking over a stump or in an in an awkward situation and you're trying to make dinner quickly or make coffee quickly, just hitting a striker and being able to start your stove is outstanding. So with these small backpack style stoves, I've always tried to watch the simmer. I want to be able to boil water really quick which this is a crazy output. But some meals, especially if you're actually cooking food, not just rehydrating backpack meals or making coffee, you've got to be able to simmer this

 Welcome back to Burning River Bushcraft. Today we're going to be looking at a new cook system from Soto. So either these two items are going to be available individually, but what makes it a set is inside this new river pot I've got an amica stove with an igniter. The stove and pot both fit inside a mesh bag and that's kind of handy when you're washing your dishes and they're not quite dry yet

 So the pot is anodized aluminum and I've got coated bale handles. Now the lid, I've got a pull tab here and this is like a translucent plastic so I can look down through it and see that my food is boiling. And I've got kind of a drain hole here in the front so that's going to work great for any type of noodle dish or anything I'm boiling and then I want to drain off the liquids and keep the solids in the pot. So this is a super lightweight pot

 That's the best use for these bags. I hang them up and I don't have to worry about anything being put away wet. So the pot is anodized aluminum and I've got coated bale handles. Now the lid, I've got a pull tab here and this is like a translucent plastic so I can look down through it and see that my food is boiling

SOTO New River Pot & Amicus Stove

 Not worth the extra $15 in my opinion, but it works ok on the stove if it is just going to be your only piece. I might just get the stove alone if I had to do it over since I have some other cookware, but the still pot is nice to have. The stove does not fit into the pot with a 230g canister, but the smaller canister would fit with the stove.

I've purchased two stoves by Soto. The piezo on the first failed (quit generating a spark) on the second backpacking trip. Figured it was a fluke, because this brand normally has a good reputation.  I purchased a second stove, and the piezo initially worked but failed -- again, no spark -- the second time I tried to use the stove

 As all my reviews I'm not going to get into every detail about this product. I'll post a link in the description below for you guys to on your own time go research more information about this product to see if it meets all the needs for your backpacking gear setup. What do you get when you purchase the kit? Well let's start by this you get this little head net case that everything stuffs into and cinches down with this toggle really light. You get the pot itself comes with the lid and then you get this case that holds the stove

 It's got a great piezo igniter which has not failed me. It's got a nice handle here for the regulator you can use with gloves as well. It has four pot supports which is really stable with the teeth on there. Really nice

 The case is really nice and you get the stove and that's pretty much what you get. Let's start by talking about the pot itself. The pot is 1000 milliliters it's anodized aluminum it has a logo here it's got a plastic lid with a pour spout and a rubberized grab handle which I really really love really cool and it has two handles that fold out and these handles really have a nice stickiness to them so they don't really move around. They also coat it with rubber to help you protect yourself from burning your fingers so that's pretty much it for the pot itself
