state 4130 all road at $900, excellent all-around bike especially if you’re looking for steel, with fenders and racks it makes an excellent commuter bike, can clear a 27.5 x 2.2 mountain bike tire for excellent capability off-road, most relaxed and upright riding position. Poseidon redwood at $950, least good on pavement but most capable off-road with the ability to clear a 27.5 x 2.8 mountain bike tire!.

\- On the other end is the State Bicycles 4130 All-Road. 2 Specs available. $900. Though, I'd recommend bumping up to the double wheelset option (+$400) to give you wider flexibility.

I'm new to gravel riding. I currently ride a Nukeproof Scout 275 MTB that is a slog to ride on flat and hills for mile after mile so I'm looking into an entry level gravel bike. So far the State 4130 and Poseidon Dropbar X seem like good entries that offer the ability to upgrade in the future if I stick with it.

State bicycles 4130 All Road or Poseidon X / Redwood. Absolute best bang for the buck. Poseidon X has a flat bar version as well. These are gravel bikes - Id say the perfect bike for commuting.

I have three of them and the one I recommend the most is State Bicycle All-Road 4130 in a size Large. It’s one of the most affordable gravel bikes on the market and has a lot of higher features on a small budget. Big guys like us need to get some weight off our bums and also need a lot of hand positions. Wide, tubeless slick tires are the way to go for roads.

State 4130 is probably the best budget gravel bike on the list. Has the most features at the lowest price, but you’ll probably still want to change the brake calipers, tires, saddle, pedals.

1 bike on my wish list is a State All-Road 4130. For about $1300 you can have a drop-bar all steel disc bike with both 650b and 700c wheel sets - which means a whole lot of checked boxes for different riding terrains. For less than $1600, you can get both the wheel sets and a carbon fork. I can’t imagine more versatile bang for the buck.

After changing out the pedals and saddle to something that suited me better, it's been rock solid. Though I plan on replacing it and my current eBike next year with the Ride1Up Roadster Gravel Edition (or similar if something else comes out by then). If interested in more than just commuting and you don't mind a little chain maintenance. The Poseidon X, Poseidon Redwood or State All-Road 4130 are my go-to under $1000 recommendations for "do it all" bikes.
