Cooking/Kitchen Items that are great investments for young people?

 The julienne cross/cutting attachments work also fine, but here is a concern. They can be pushed out of way so they need to be tightened. And tightening is done by two thumb screws that screw into PLASTIC threads. And here is the problem

Hey! Hit me with some of your kitchen must haves, I'm kinda new and I decided I will put some cash into my cooking.

Slotted blades pose a risk

After using it for a number of food events (family Bridal Shower), I was not happy with its design in keeping the adjustable plate level with the blade. If only slicing a narrow item around 2” that could be kept close to the “Right Side”, the support works fine. If wider (like a full size Red Onion), the stabilizer begins to fail and the thickness to the left become thicker. I would return but missed the return period

 I’d had a large four legged Oxo mandoline which was just too big and didn’t cut well and was a pain to clean, dry and store. So I’d give up on a slicer for years. While this slicer is smaller and lots of people recommend it, it’s still too big to say drop in a drawer. But I like that is is cut away on the underside so you can hook onto the top of a bowl and your slices can fall into one

I’m not surprised that’s it’s Japanese since almost all of my kitchen knives are Japanese and as usual the quality is superior

I don’t like that when you remove the changeable vertical slicing blades, there is a large gap between the running board and the blade. However the slices were pretty consistent in thickness so I’d advise all to not use too much downward pressure

 It's not great, but it works. The food holder works. Is it great? No. But it's better than many competing offerings

This review is of the Jumbo slicer. With the Benriner, one can slice through things incredibly quickly. I would generally consider my knife skills to be excellent, but there are some things that a mandoline just does better. Thin potato slices, Radish slices for a salad, thin cut onions for a stir fry or Oklahoma onion burger? This slicer works excellent

 Cut resistant gloves are still your friend. Cleanup is pretty easy, treat it like a knife and clean it immediately after use and it will give you many years of faithful service. Overall, 4/5 (maybe more like 4.5/5

Easy Cleanup, Good Design

 The good: slicing thin onions was easy. The manager at Thundercloud subs advised they used a professional meat slicing machine for their vegetables. Given I don't require their volume, I was hoping the Benriner Mandolin would suffice. If you use this Mandoline without having to adjust he thickness and no need for ultra thin slices, perhaps it will work for you
