 Still much better than those cycling results. And I think the reason that the running test was better than the cycling examples is it was a steady state run and where I saw the biggest issues is with rapid changes in heart rate with both the indoor and outdoor rides. And the sensor also really didn't handle road vibrations well while riding outside. And then for weight training nearly all wrist-based heart rate sensors don't do well with this type of activity so this is kind of par for the course so no points docked here

 So on this ride I swapped the watch to my other wrist and we see basically the exact same thing but maybe a little bit worse this time. But it was interesting though because with running I actually saw better results at least for the second half but it did wobble a smidge for the first half. Still much better than those cycling results.  The Suunto 9 Peak really is all about this new hardware so they basically just shrunk the original Suunto 9 down to something that's much more wearable versus the original watch which is kind of a beast of a watch. And for comparison the case size is nearly identical to the Garmin Forerunner 945LT right here and it's also a bit thinner. And this is the black stainless steel version that comes at 62 grams and there's also a titanium version that comes in at 52 grams. The watch strap material is nice and soft, it's flexible and it's still stretchy enough that it keeps it secure in your wrist and these are removable straps so you can replace these with whatever you'd like

 So what are my thoughts on the Suunto 9 Peak? Well I think it's great that they crammed everything from the Suunto 9 Barrel into a much smaller case and it's a lot more wearable. The build quality is fantastic and I think it looks really good. GPS performance was reasonable, not the best I've seen but I think it's perfectly acceptable but I wasn't as stoked on the heart rate performance and that was mainly due to how it handled rapid changes in heart rate as well as vibrations in the road. And I think the innovation with the snap to route feature is really cool

I just replaced my suunto 9 with a Garmin 945 and I’ve been almost overwhelmed with how much more data and advanced stats that the Garmin has over the suunto.

I need to get a new running watch and was looking at Suunto 9 and Polar Vantage/Grit Pro - Does anyone have a positive or negative experience using these watches? 

I know most go for a Garmin 945 / 245 / Fenix etc, but wondered about the other brands

Running watch that offers advanced stats

Yes, sleek; yes looks solid BUT

I was pretty happy with it overall except for the battery life which wasn't a lot of fun. But I understed that I can't connect a HR chest strap and that the HR from the watch is not that reliable at times. I'm pretty torn now between the Garmin Fenix 6x pro and the Suunto 9 Peak. The Garmin seems like the more feature packed choice, but the Suunto is the newer option and I think it will still answer all my needs

Lag time

 No maps on Suunto, just breadcrumbs navigation. I wouldn't buy 6x at this point because Fenix 7 seems imminent.

Considering Crossfit and running were the first on your list, I would recommend the 945 as it is lighter, and a fully featured Garmin Watch that also has maps and routing for hiking or cycling. I also hear it connects to the Flow goggles for swimming. Plus the 945 has Ant+. That being said if you want something more rugged and with Sapphire screen the Peak and Vertix 2 will do,  although The Peak does not have maps, and the Vertix 2 does not have rerouting on the fly. Coros did just update the Vertix 2 with Strava integration so that's a bonus. As for the Fenix6 Pro, it's much like the 945 except heavier because of the stronger body.

Just to make it a a little more confusing, the Vertix 2  has many more features than the Suunto 9 Peak.

I have owned a S9baro, Fenix 6 Pro Solar, and Vertix2. 

IN my experience, The app from Suunto did not work very well. Their hardware and firmware were awesome. But specifically the App would delete tons of steps and sleep data and I never got a clear reason why. 

The Fenix was solid software and a more polished app but the hardware felt way cheaper. 

The battery life for me was a selling point o. The switch to Coros. And the Vertix2 had everything I needed as a backpacker/hiker, mountain biker, kayaker, and occasional runner and lifter. 

After a few months with a Vertix2 I have zero regrets. Love the watch. And am constantly impressed by their firmware updates. 

Ask me anything. 

But I can confidently say that Coros has the best hardware. And I personally like their app experience.

The New Garmin Fenix 7 Watch - is it worth upgrading from the 6?

Although I really like the watch, thinking of upgrading from my heavy/hulking 5x sapphire to something Abit lighter and more functional for everyday use. I'm pretty much right on the fence between the two models in the subject line. Anyone that has feedback or suggestions I'd appreciate.
