 . but I guess it works. You’re supposed to be able to put round veg holder on the top somehow, but I don’t have a lot of luck with it staying put, and so I just store it separate.  PLEASE make sure you “close” the slicer (pressing the guide all the way forward from the back) so that you, or someone else, won’t get cut by simply handling the mandolin while not in use and moving it

 I’ve used stainless steel mandolins many times. . . and, for the most part, I’ve felt “safe” using them

 This product is SCARY!  First of all, the makers need to have a “REAL” instructional video on the proper and safe way to use this mandolin. They have a long video on YouTube, but it’s far from being an “instructional video”. It’s a “sales pitch” video. There’s no talking

 These notches are totally of no use to keep the slicer in place on top of a bowl, so everything slides all around creating more of a problem and an unstable slicing situation. It does cut good so I gave it 3 stars, but every reason why the old model was recommended was totally ABSENT on this later model. It is German made, but clearly the design is not well thought out at all. I am a tool maker by trade and have modified my slicer to make it more stable for my use, but I would not advise anyone to get this as is more trouble to use than it is worth

Not nearly as good as the older model it replaced

 If you want to cut in cubes be prepared to damage the part that holds the veggie, if you try to cut (slice or julienne) at the thickest setting the food will get stuck at the “V” of the blade

thin slice cuts are ok, I thought it was going to be better

 The blades on this thing are unbelievably sharp. I thought other reviewers were exaggerating or clumsy, but the very first thing I did with this thing is cut myself and bleed all over the food I was preparing. It's damn sharp, and the bladed attachments make it even more dangerous to use.  I do wish this thing could cut slightly thicker slices

 The spacing is far too narrow, and I'm left with julienne-sized sticks of whatever I'm slicing.  The "dicing" feature is questionable. First, you can only dice stuff REALLY REALLY small, like 1/8" in size. And second, you need to rotate the holder by 90 degrees on every stroke for the dicing to work

Almost Perfect, But Beware... It Bites!

Let me start with saying that this is my first mandoline ever, so it's possible that the few complaints I have may exist in other slicers as well. I looked around a lot before buying, and the other Borner slicer had amazing reviews, so I decided to go with this slightly updated version, figuring it too must be great, and for the most part was pleasantly surprised.  The slicer blade itself is VERY sharp. It makes easy work of most vegetables (and fingers if you don't use the safety holder)

Very nice slicer, with a couple shortcomings

 The are great for shreds and thin sticks, but the widest width slices potatoes the size of shoe string fries. I had hoped to use this to cut at least medium french fries, but there's no way. If they had included a wider-spaced blade, even for a few dollars more, I would have given it 5 stars.  I always wear a safety glove when using a mandolin

 The thickness is adjustable from thick down to nearly paper thin by simply sliding the knob on the outer edge of the mandolin and adjusting the blade plate to the proper position. Very easy to do. Like all mandolins, you have to use some elbow grease to slice the food, but this brand is so sharp that it is much easier and smoother to use.  I appreciate the safety guard for the blade slicer when not in use and the hard plastic container for the menacing-looking julienne blades

 That is exactly what I get with the Swissmar Borner V slicer.  I am very pleased with the quality of this mandolin. The blades are very sharp as advertised. I've had no problem slicing anything from potatoes to celery, eggplant to hard boiled eggs

 Other reviewers stated the same so I was aware of this at purchase time but it is still worth noting. If you intend to make fries or wedges from your vegetables, be prepared to continue using your favorite knife unless you want ultra-slim fries. For me, I do not like the slim cuts because they do not cook up right - thicker is better. Another MAJOR weakness, and almost resulting in a loss of two or more stars, is that this Mandoline does not have legs to raise up the device to allow food to flow out easily and it can easily slide on you

These are significant issues but both can be overcome. I just have to remember to regularly stop, remove the foods from under the mandoline, and then continue

 My previous Swissmar could be mounted over a large mixing bowl allowing for all the food to fall nicely in without my having to stop at all.  It cleans up easily. The blades are not replaceable or able to be sharpened, as several reviewers have noted and complained, but at this price, I am okay with this weakness.  After using it for several major cooking projects, I decide to give the Swissmar four stars

Works Just Fine!

 Now, after using the Borner V Power Mandoline V-7000 slicer, my last batch of sauerkraut consisting of 16 heads of cabbage, turned out a lot better than good, probably great. What I discovered using this slicer is that the thinner you can slice the cabbage the better. It makes it easier to extract the liquid from the cabbage after you have added salt and smashed the cabbage down. This slicer makes it easy to make thin slices and I would estimate that it took about half the time to do the job versus me using a knife

Sauerkraut made easy!

  The food pusher worked remarkably well. After the above test, only sliver of 1/8th inch vegetable was left. The food pusher is not designed to ride on the groove on the mandoline, but rather on top of it. The front and back edge of the food pusher has plastic serration to give feedback as to danger beyond these points

The mandoline is designed well overall. The thickness adjustment is a quick with a push in with a thumb via sliding in/out of the bottom plate. The unit comes with 3 bottom attachments: 1 ) without vertical blade and, 2,3) with small vertical blade in two different size to cut slices into thin cube/rectangle cubes. It also comes with the food pusher which works well, and a case to store the vertical slice bottom plate

  Very good design overall. Through these and more, only thing that I missed was a stand or leg to keep the unit in place. Using this on a large bowl to collect the sliced veggies, left small vegetable parts all over the kitchen counter top. I wished there was easier way to hold this in place than by holding it by the handle

 It definitely will do that well. It would be nice if they would make a stand or a bowl that will fit under the mandoline so that you don't have to hold it up in order to slice more than a few times (as it tends to get clogged up and jam if you don't lift it up to give it the space for the cut items). I also wish that the safety food pusher had some prongs that were closer together so that you can cut carrots that are longer narrower. It doesn't quite attach to, and hold secure the narrower carrots
