The best is definitely the Tacx Neo, not the Flux. But the reason people like the kickr so much is the extra things that intelligently combined with it. The kickr climb and the fan - both change their behavior depending on your riding

I have the Elite Direto and it sounds very similar to what you describe with the Wahoo. Just FYI.

I got myself one 6 weeks ago as an upgrade for the Tacx flux but I don’t see a big different at all. I was expecting reduced noise In the house and more stability at lower gears.
However the wahoo makes similar if not more noise and vibrates when doing low cadence workouts.
Is this normal?
I am reaching out to wahoo to ask for a replacement or get a refund for a new trainer but not sure what to get.
Elite? Or the Tacx again?

Is wahoo kickr really better than any other trainers out there?

 On contacting customer service I was advised to remove a cover and photo/ film the drive train.  Upon sending this in, I received no further response. Not good for a $3,000 purchase.  Otherwise I wasn’t a huge fan of the ERG mode which seemed to bounce around all over the shop watts wise (this could’ve been due to the other issue), not providing the consistency feeing I have on my $350 Tacx Vortex, I had planned to replace with the Smart Bike

Disappointed esp due to cost.  Upon my first cycle I noticed a clear dead spot/ click in the pedal stroke. On contacting customer service I was advised to remove a cover and photo/ film the drive train.  Upon sending this in, I received no further response

Okay.  Okay, if you haven't seen Ray's video on the Tacx Neo Bike Smart released half an hour ago go and check that out first I'll link below to that. What I'm going to cover now is my take on this having pretty much just freshly stepped off another smart bike I'll compare the differences that I see on this when I first throw a leg over it, but first Ray has his saddle up way too high, so let's adjust that so I can actually fit on the bike. Oh, it comes with two different adjusters in the box as well We've been told so you won't have to have one of those, but it was just as simple as that to change the seat height Okay, throwing a leg over or optionally through let's clip in and See what this is all about First up it is quiet a lot quieter than the what bike I was on Again, the noise is coming from behind here if anywhere rather than in front It's all focused around here On the cranks themselves Two very important things with the cranks the Q factor for a start is that of a standard road bike So not any wider not any less Q factor is not that important but if you're down to the millimeter for all your measurements the Q factor should be the same as your road bike and Also, the crank length is adjustable The crank lengths themselves are a set length here But there are little module inserts where you can go from 170 172.5 to 175 in length so more adjustability in the cranks Probably two really important ones early on the Q factor and crank length size Next up is the gearing you are not changing blind on this unit

 You never know It's going to be very interesting to see with these new hardware the capabilities. They're going to unlock in the future So aside from that there is a few new additions on the front here that we haven't seen in the prototype models These are controllable fans So you can see here. TACX NEO Bike Smart: Early Impressions // First Ride

Beginning of quarantine I bought a $100 wheel in magnetic trainer, which has been incredibly disappointing to use.

Ideally I would really like a Kickr Core or similar, direct drive trainer but find it hard to justify $750 after putting so much money into a road bike. 

I have been looking around on eBay for used wahoo kickr but they rarely sell for less than 600. Anybody figure something out that is more affordable without giving up the quality of your experience?

Any words of caution when looking used for a smart trainer?

Cheaper ways to enter Smart Trainer Market

High quality, right pluses for me

 Ok, let's kick things off with a few quick questions answered right here. I'll be looking at Q-Factor, how far apart are the pedals on the bike, maximum and minimum saddle heights, bar width and clamp size, saddle width and details, and the overall footprint of the bike. Jumping straight into the answers for those, the Q-Factor of the Neo Bike is 147mm so it matches that of a standard Shimano Rogue crankset, and for reference most mountain bikes are around 170mm apart, so definitely road bike Q-Factor on the Neo Bike Smart. Onto the minimum and maximum saddle heights as measured in the Llama Lab by myself

 I feel, well not as fast as I once was but that's my TT position I've used for years and years outdoors. I'm looking forward to kitting up and getting a few sessions dialled in in this position. Good to roll. Okay there we are, the Tacx Neo Bike Smart, pushed and pulled in all different ways and my road and TT bike fit applied to it

 Okay that's on and when moving the seat forward you need to move the saddle up a little bit because it shortens the length between the top of the saddle and the centre bottom bracket so that needs to come up just a little bit. Reverse lever out, that up just a little bit. And making sure they reach the centre of the saddle to the pads is ballpark where I need it to be. Okay I'm just going to push that a little bit further, there's actually a rainstorm happening in the background there so good day to be inside on one of these bikes

It's a dumb name, but it works really well and it allows me and my wife to both use it with just a quick change of the positions, as opposed to swapping our bikes on and off a trainer or having to buy two trainers.

Which trainers do you use?

I had the original Tacx Neo, with a road bike attached. The price is high for this bike, but there are a lot of advantages. Electronic shifting is probably the main advantage, smooth. The bike is very stable, no wiggle or movement

Worth it

 You have a wide range of adjustments you can do. The fan settings, the two small fans on the bike can be operated and controlled by your speed, power, heart rate, or just a fixed speed, or you can turn it off altogether. I'm not going to go into details because the results is just the same as my previous test and I will link to my original post if you want to look at the data but not going to bore you here with all that information other than it just works. In air mode, the bikes works, it's smooth and responds to intervals changes pretty quickly

 The tablet holder also nice to have a tray to keep your phone. The tablet holder is a little finicky though and you'll find your tablet sliding from time to time would be nice if they add some kind of an anti slippery type material to prevent the tablet from sliding. The low power USB ports can be weak but also nice to know they are there when you realize your tablet does not have much charge in it as you are getting ready to work out. But yeah, I would like to see Garmin add a high power USB and a USB type C port too would be nice
