 Unboxing the kit, the first thing that stood out was the colour. The distinctly tangoed look might not be for everyone but there are a few more muted options available for those who prefer a slightly subtler look. We actually quite liked the finish, it's less lurid in person than you might expect and offset with that slightly aged white looking front head it's actually quite attractive. The drums themselves have a look that throws you back to the 80s and 90s with the old school Tama logos and lugs

 All of the drums here came fitted with Tama Powercraft 2 drum heads. We've got clear single ply heads on both the batter and resonant sides of the toms, we have a coated snare batter and the bass drum features a clear batter coated rezo with both heads featuring the internal muffling ring. The unported bass drum had a great balance of depth and attack with enough low end resonance to be pleasing but at the same time not sacrifice articulation. This drum recorded well and felt satisfying to play

 While it's really normal for kits around this price range to feature quite shallow snares it was really nice to get a bit of extra beef from the 6.5 inch deep shell. It sounded quite articulate and crisp with good dynamics though understandably isn't the loudest drum since it does feature quite a thin shell coupled with low mass hardware. We liked that it was a dry and responsive drum which to us made it seem like it's a slightly more expensive drum than it really is

5 snare drum. Beautiful tone, beautiful volume, great projection, it was really easy to tune. I have it tuned up kind of high right now, but it went there naturally. Great side stick sound as well

 OK, thanks. How are you doing, everybody? Dick Divergillio here, and today's video is about this Tama Superstar Classic Drum Kit in this beautiful Tangerine Lacquer Burst Finish. Tama has made one great drum kit here, seven pieces I'm sitting behind, which is really fun to have so many drums to sit behind and play. It's an all maple drum kit with a lot of great features, so let's get into the details right now

 And before this video is over, I'll give you some more suggestions on other heads you could use. But right now, these heads sound really good, they feel good, and give these drums a great punchy tone. So first, the tom toms, snare wires off. These all-maple shells give these drums great punch and great volume, resonance, and they're really musical

 I have it tuned up kind of high right now, but it went there naturally. Great side stick sound as well. Just nice, and it's really sensitive feeling all the way to the edge, back into the center. All in all, for the cost of this drum kit, you're getting a really beautiful sounding drum kit, great playability, feels really good, and with this killer finish, this tangerine lacquer burst will look good on any stage, guaranteed

I’ve been thinking as of late to invest some money in a brand new kit (shell pack), but I’m stuck between two different ones.

I know what snare I want, but as to what I’ve been playing on till now, it’s the [Roland TD-07KX V-Drum Set](https://www.thomann.de/se/roland_td_07kx_v_drum_set.htm).

Any opinions?

Thinking of getting my first acoustic kit - opinions?

 Definitely loud and cracking and it's got a nice thuddy sort of deep tone where I tuned it right here. You can definitely go higher and for sure go lower and this head really gives it a nice feel to it as well. Nice beefy tone and you get a great side stick sound as well. I like it

 Now the kick drum here, it's a 22 by 18, big and beefy and I did a little something different here with the kick drum heads. I want to tell you about this because I think it's a really cool deal and something to check out. It's called the EQ3 Drumhead Pack. That's why you don't see the Tama logo on the front of the head

 We get really good musical tone out of them. Now these heads that I put on here definitely warm up the drums in a very good way. I was talking about this with the great drummer Mike Johnston. He was here at Sweetwater doing a master class and we were talking about when you buy a brand new drum set it's really not your drum kit until you get it into your hands and you tweak things to make your kit your own, your sound

 It's called the EQ3 Drumhead Pack. That's why you don't see the Tama logo on the front of the head. In the pack you get an EQ3 batter and an EQ3 resonant head. The resonant head has a hole in the already cut that is protected on the back side so it's not going to tear on you

I currently have a 7 piece Pearl export that I’m not that thrilled with. I’m only using 4 of six pieces and I don’t like how small my toms are (specifically my 14 inch floor Tom). I’m thinking of selling it and picking up a Tama Superstar or a similarly priced Ludwig element kit. I’ve gotten to play the element kit before but never tried the Tama. Is it worth seeking out? Any other similarly priced kits that might work better?

Pearl Export vs Tama superstar classic

 What's cool about the way I have it set up right now, when I hit it really softly, you really hear a nice just warm low tone, a definite musical note. That's really cool. One of the things adding to the tone here is I'm using a Tama Speed Cobra kick drum pedal with a plastic beater, so you're getting that punchy sound of the plastic hitting the plastic head. But if you put on a puffy beater on your kick drum pedal, you could totally like mellow out the sound and the attack of the drum

 With that said, I'm going to turn the snare wires off and play these toms so you can hear what they sound like. These are really musical sounding drums, all outfitted with Tama's Powercraft II drum heads, so it's a wide open tone here. Now I always say to everybody that buys a new drum kit, please experiment with different drum heads because you might find just the exact tone, and you can really change up the sound of these drums with just changing up the drum heads. So a double ply head is something like maybe an Evans EC2, a Remo Emperor, or a pinstripe, Aquarian Super IIs, or Response IIs would really warm up these drums and make them more even rounder sounding than they are now, but right now there's no dampening, they're completely wide open, and you get great tone interval between every drum

 Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Tama's Superstar Classic line of drums has been around for over 40 years, and they've really stood the test of time

 It might be kind of cool having the different pitches in not the usual fashion. Really nice looking low-mass lugs on this drum, just leaving more wood, more of this beautiful finish to look at. Toma is also paying homage to the kit from way back in the 70s with the classic T-shaped Toma badge on the drums. This drum kit does come with the double tom holder you see on the kick drum right there, and you also get the tom holder for the 8-inch drum to mount on a cymbal stand

I have a nice tama superstar 5-piece drumkit as the first drum kit I ever purchased last summer. It sounds pretty good but I think I want to change some of the heads. It has a kick, snare, floor tom, hi and mid rack toms, and I also got some cymbal stands and the larger Zildjian L80s cymbals. They're quiet but not too quiet and sound nice to me
