 It's not going to be a technical review. I'm not going to pixel people go into a lab I'm just going to share with you how I found it in the field I want to be able to give you the information to make a decision whether to purchase this lens or not I'm going to compare this with Canon's RF 100-500 and of course my trusty 405.6. Let's see how it compares with those lenses So I'm going to talk about what I liked about the lens and of course what I didn't like about the lens and I'm going to Be honest in this review So for transparency I reached out to both Tamron and Sigma because I wanted to test both their zoom lenses side-by-side Unfortunately Sigma were unable to assist but Tamron were more than happy to send me this lens now They have no input over what I say

 They haven't given me any money, and I do have to return this lens So what I say will be my opinion in my opinion only all right, so I'm just going to quickly talk about the lens itself It feels pretty solid to me. It's not too heavy. I've extended it out to its maximum zoom range So it is a zoom lens what that means is it goes from 150 millimeters Which is quite wide to 600 which is quite narrow and makes that subject a lot bigger in the frame I think the 600 millimeters is probably what attracts most people to this lens because it can be difficult to get that sort of focal Length when it comes to birding you simply turn the zoom ring to change your focal length so 600 millimeters Down to 150 but when we're at 600 it feels you know pretty good in the hand. It's fairly well balanced It's not too heavy

Tamron 150-600mm G2 Review - The AFFORDABLE Wildlife Lens - Can You Take Nice Shots?

4x teleconverter can really help give you some extra reach if used with care, and of course if you're willing to pay for it. I was hoping to get a bit more sharpness out of the lens overall, although you should bear in mind that super telephoto lenses can sometimes have a few issues with sample variation and decentring when zoomed right in. Anyway, if you're looking for a super telephoto lens with the best build quality and the best image stabilisation, then this is definitely the one for you.

 At f6.3, the image quality is just okay. The left hand corner again was slightly sharper than the right, and image quality there is just about usable. It's about the same at f8 and f11, although if you do stop down, the image quality in the middle is a little better here

 At f9, the high resolution APS-C camera is just pushing the lens too far, and we get a soft image in the middle and into the corners. If you stop down to f11 or f16, you don't get any real improvement. So overall, the Tamron 150-600mm G2 is quite a good lens on APS-C, in some places very good, but it's not the sharpest option when you zoom all the way in. The teleconverter pushes things a bit too far on APS-C, as we just saw, when attached to this particular lens, it's most effective on full frame cameras

 Anyway, if you're looking for a super telephoto lens with the best build quality and the best image stabilisation, then this is definitely the one for you.

) That being said, I still like using this lens because when things are in focus, it seems as or slightly more consistently sharp, plus the extra 100mm reach.  (To be clear, for straightforward subjects, this lens focuses very quickly. What seems to be the less than ideal timing is when the camera is focus hunting, or you need to go from one extreme to the other, or focus on very long distance objects against the sky, like flying birds.)

Solid, quality lens that captures great images; sometimes, auto-focus speed could be better.

 The further you zoom in though, the slower the autofocus goes, in order to maintain accuracy. So here at 400mm the autofocus goes slower, and at 600mm it's pretty slow. The most important thing though is that it focuses accurately, which it does. Overall, it's all built very solidly, and the lens works pretty well

 Owners of APS-C cameras will be less impressed, as the tiny pixels on their smaller camera sensors are a bit too much for this camera lens to cope with, presenting us with softer images. But there really are few other affordable 600mm options apart from this Tamron lens. For what it is, which is a good value super telephoto lens, it's very good indeed.

 Finally, at 600mm and with the aperture open at f6.3, the lens is noticeably soft in the middle. The corners, again, are a touch softer. Stop the aperture down to f8, and there's a tiny bit more sharpness, but the image quality is still not impressive, although resolution in the middle of the picture is just about acceptable

 At 450mm and f6.3, the lens isn't particularly sharp in the middle of the image. The corners are also a little soft, with a little visible colour fringing. Again, stop down to f8 for a bit more sharpness from the corners and back into the middle of the image, where sharpness levels are good enough

  Again This lens will enable you to get some awesome shots, but you need practice, steady hands and GOOD LIGHT.

Sharp 600mm lens, but has it's drawbacks

Great optics, fast autofocus but VR has major issues with the Nikon Z9

 However at full range you do see some vignetting - but I am not a professional so it does not bother me that much. Image stability and the new panning feature works well for bird photography. I used the Sigma 150-600 on a Canon 5D Mark1v and this one performs way better. The big difference being the quality of the images and functions very well in low light conditions too

 I shot better image with my old Sigma. Sending this back and getting a Nikon 200-500mm instead.

 With lots of hope, I ordered this and went out to test soon after it was delivered to me. When I got a blurry image that was shot at 1/1600s, I knew this was no keeper. I did get few sharp picture for birds resting on ground or on tree. But it's terrible for birds in flight
