The TCL 4K 6-Series with Google TV offers more features and better performance than the Roku-based 6-Series, and all you&#039;re giving up is Apple AirPlay.

The 55R646 is a 120Hz TV that supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM), which should please gamers.  It's the simplest looking screen, when you first turn on the TV you get that nice grid of apps. It's also the easiest to customize, you can add and remove apps to your heart's content, you can move around on the screen and you're not stuck looking at an ad or a promo for a TV show or movie like most of the other competitors have. Roku moved really quickly on the TCL 6 Series, really no delays moving around, and of course you can search for apps, you can search for TV shows, you can search for movies really easily either typing into the screen or using the voice function on the remote control, so that's a nice touch too. I also appreciate like all Roku devices, this thing is compatible with Apple AirPlay, so you can easily cast from your iPhone or other Apple device right to the TV screen, that's a cool touch

TCL 6-Series TV Review (R655) | Still awesome, but …

 But what I want to talk about right now isn't about how easy it is to find the content you want to watch or how quickly the streaming apps load or even whether they support Apple AirPlay or Google Chromecast, et cetera. It's about how the TVs work on the backend when they run on a third party platform like Google TV or Roku TV. With the Google TV platform, which we also see on Sony TVs as well as the Hisense U8H here, there don't appear to be a whole lot of restrictions imposed by the platform itself. In fact, if we compare Sony's implementation to Hisense's, we can see that there's a little bit of wiggle room in terms of what kind of picture presets can be used and what kind of picture adjustment options you can touch

 But for a TV like the R655-6 series here or even some of TCL's higher performance TVs, I'm starting to see that limited access cause a few concerns for me and anyone else who really wants to get the best out of their TV. Let me show you what I mean.
