The best soundbar under $100 that we've tested is the TCL Alto 6+. This bar's sound profile is pretty neutral in the mids, where most voices are reproduced. Dialogue in TV shows is pretty clear, but it can also seem a little dull due to the recessed treble. Since most small soundbars are standalone setups, they can't reproduce that deep thump and rumble in the low-bass that helps you feel the action in intense movie scenes. There are some small bars available that come with a subwoofer, like the TCL Alto 6+. The bar itself is compact enough to fit under a 55 inch TV stand, and its subwoofer isn't very large.

This setup has a pretty neutral and balanced sound profile, so voices and lead instruments in music and TV shows are clearly and accurately reproduced. As a result, it's suitable for listening to stereo content, which includes most music and dialogue-focused TV shows like sitcoms. If you watch many movies, the bar can playback 5.1 surround sound formats like Dolby Digital, which are often found on streaming platforms. Unfortunately, it has to downmix them into stereo to play them since it's a 2.1 setup. The resulting sound isn't quite as immersive as what you get with more premium models, but it still performs pretty well for how much it costs.

It's a simple 2.1 setup that doesn't have as many features as the pricier options on the list, but it's still suitable for uses like listening to stereo content like music and TV shows. It's even advertised as Roku TV Ready, so if you own a Roku TV, you can seamlessly control the bar with your TV remote. There's also a subwoofer included, which improves its bass reproduction.

Given its low price, it's not a surprise that its sound quality isn't quite as impressive as the more expensive options on the list, like the Bose TV Speaker or the Samsung HW-B550. Overall, it has a decent sound, with a fairly neutral response that ensures vocals and lead instruments clearly reproduce. However, there's some darkness in the mix due to its recessed treble, which is especially noticeable with high-pitched voices and instruments. Your customization options are limited, but there are three EQ presets on hand, including a 'TV' mode that enhances dialogue to make voices more crisp and clear in your audio.  So if you want to plug it in the optical audio out, it comes with a cable. If you want to plug it in via hdmi, it comes with the cable. If you want to mount it on the wall, it comes with mounting brackets. To do that, so tcl really thought of everything

 That being said, it is a hundred bucks and a budget soundbar system, so it's still pretty nice quality for what you're paying. Now, let's move into how loud this sound system can get so the tcl alto six plus can get fairly loud. I live in an apartment and i never have to turn it up to full volume, and if i did, my neighbors would probably hate me for it, so it does get very loud. That being said, good news - it does not get distorted when it's loud, so it keeps its audio quality as the sound gets louder

 Tv obviously focuses on dialogue mainly and draws out. The ambient sound and the music mode tries to balance all the instruments and make the voice clear. It does a very good job with that, but i will have to say throughout all of these modes. The trebles are a little flat, so it doesn't have that crispness in those high sounds, but in terms of the bass

 I'Ve had no problems with the bluetooth disconnecting to the sound bar, so that's not an issue and you're not gon na have to worry about routing wires to the wall, to have a clean setup. All that this subwoofer has is the power cable. You can place it wherever you want in the room and not worry about tripping on cables or having to route them. It is a very clean and minimalistic look

Depends a lot on what you want to use the TV for as well. I mean, the X85J series are okay for watching mostly news and sports, as well as the occasional movie and some occasional gaming.

If you're more serious about movies, the 95 series are a better choice. For a combo of mostly gaming and movies, the 90/92 series. This is because they have full array local dimming (each backlight LED independently varies in intensity to match the image), while the X85J has direct dimming (all backlight LEDs operate in unison).

Also, consider last year's models (XH95 for mostly movie watching and XH90 for gaming) instead of X95J and X90J if you want to save a bit of cash. They run Android TV instead of Google TV, something that will not matter if you are using an external device for smart TV viewing anyway (such as Apple TV or nVidia Shield).

Furthermore the XH90 will take advantage of the latest gaming consoles hot features as long as the firmware is updated to the revision that was launched at the start of October this year.

Finally, if your room is big enough to handle an 85 inch, and you won't be straining your neck while watching sports, go for it. Otherwise, don't make the mistake I was about to make, going for the biggest TV size "just because". It really has to be the right viewing environment. (In my case, I was gunning for 65 or 75 inches, but turned out I didn't need more than 55. Might get something bigger when I buy a house, though. We'll see.)

very disappointed.....

 But it does randomly reconnect and blast me out of room and then I get to do the unplugging thing again to fix that. Also, I don’t think the movie, music or tv mode buttons works. I can never tell a difference. I don’t believe that they actually work

The sound is great when the subwoofer actually works properly. It won’t stay connected. I have to unplug and plug everything back in to get it to work but as soon as I turn of my tv for the day the next day I have to do the whole unplug thing all over again to get it to connect. I have moved the subwoofer around and now it sits next to the tv on floor so range is not the problem

I would buy this product again!

 I am impressed overall if this was in a smaller room then it would make a huge impact. It's sad though because perhaps my living room is too large but even with the poor sound level the bass is very nice and that makes it a little better than your average sound. The bad part is I've had louder sound from those $36 sound bars from amazon.

If TCL keep R635 around for another year, these might be your only options, even with newer models. It's hard to imagine Sony or Samsung selling a FALD for $500.

I've recently got the latest update on my Samsung Q70T which really transformed the panel into an awesome panel (previously had processing issues). I've used it daily for gaming, blacks are really amazing, no blooming present and latency goes down to 4.9ms with the HDMI 2.1 input at 4k120hz + VRR + Gsync/Freesync. All of this was only corrected with the latest update though, however. Prior to that, I was keen on selling or requesting a replacement. Hope this helps

I just got a ps5 i play call of duty a lot and i need a decent tv that has a low input lag 18ms or lower and a decent variable refresh rate, it’s for my room so nothing too fancy, i also would be streaming a lot so i would appreciate your opinion’s, i am okay with buying a used tv/refurbished tv if you can provide a link, i can also go slightly higher but i’d rather not, thank you.

 So i'm gon na go ahead and hit the bluetooth button. Here we go. You have to press and hold the bluetooth button and now tcl alto 6 pops up. So i'm going to go ahead and connect okay, so connection is pretty easy
