As a new driver, what’s the best dashcam I can get for my car?

I run Aukey DR02's front and rear on both my cars. They are great little units for the price. However, the time I really, REALLY, needed the footage it wasn't available to me.  


My wife was involved in a serious accident. No problem, we have a dashcam, let's see what happened. Lets review the footage. The last clip available was the one that ended about 30 seconds before the impact. The actual impact segment was nowhere to be seen, both front and rear. I tried to play the footage back on the camera (after checking for the footage on my card via computer.) Not there. I tried to record something, and the card is able to receive new data, and I can play back all previous files on the card. 

My best Google-fu says that the camera was in the process of recording when it lost power suddenly (when the fusebox/car's battery were ripped from the front of the car.)  This meant that the recording could be properly written to the card (as happens on shutdown/regular power off scenario.)  


The question: can I avoid this issue in future by installing a camera with a) capacitive battery for cold-weather operations) and b) an onboard power supply, or some other way to ensure the critical footage isn't lost in a serious collision.

Thinkware F800 PRO Review

I have a Thinkware F70 and it's been nothing but garbage. At first, I had no issues besides the extremely loud "beep" when I hit a bump (apparently the beep is required and you cannot shut it off). My other issue, and what really disappointed me. I drove to Phoenix 2 summers ago and it stopped working. Apparently, this dash am, designed for a car, cannot stand the summer hear in Phoenix. I sent it back to them and they sent me a replacement. That one worked for about 6 months or so, until the Oregon hear was too much and it died. Now I'm out of warranty and it's just taking up shelf space in my closet. 

Is this common for Thinkware to have such a crappy product? Is it something I was doing? It wasn't hardwired, so it was plugged into my outlet in the car...

 I downloaded the video from the rear camera which clearly caught the whole incident. I sent it to the insurance company who immediately assigned fault to the other driver. They can't argue when you have a video!

 Okay guys, welcome back down to Carbon Car Systems. Today we're going to be running you through the new dash camera from Thinkware. This is it here, the F800. So this has just come out today, the 15th of September in Australia

 And there is a new app for that as well, because these cameras, all three of these versions have Wi-Fi available and you can actually connect them to your smartphone in the car, check footage and everything, you can send it to yourself, save files, you know, constantly pull the SD card out and put in your computer. So that's notable about these dash cameras. And these have been bulletproof, you know, they've been really good in the summer in heat in Australia, which is a major importance because you don't want these things overheating, especially sitting on a windscreen in summer inside a car and get up to like 80 degrees Celsius. It gets really hot internally

 So they image correct a lot of the glare and give really good footage on these cameras. And that's nothing new that they've done this year, but they also have forward collision, lane protection warning, lane guidance warning on these. So when you're driving and deviating from your lanes, they will give you alerts. They give you speed camera, red light camera alerts, and even mobile area alerts, mobile speed camera alerts, sorry

 But personally, it should light up and record with the motion detection as well. Viewing angle, 140 degrees on both cameras, full HD, 1080p resolution, really good image correction in their footage. So they image correct a lot of the glare and give really good footage on these cameras. And that's nothing new that they've done this year, but they also have forward collision, lane protection warning, lane guidance warning on these
