At the end of the day, if you're not a tight budget or are a broke grad-student dying for independence, this set of pans will get you through the day... not in style, but through the day at any rate

The teflon isn't the greatest, but it does its job - you have to use your brain and not go scrubbing the pans or using metal utensils or even the plastic ones provided to go digging for gold somewhere below the surface.

 and they're not what I had originally wanted, but they're affordable and I'm able to cook food in them three months later.

The silver thing... I don't know what it is - I used it as a colander until I got tired of trying to scrub pasta gunk from under the flaps of it, and that nifty spaghetti-utensil with all the prongs is gone, too - I wasn't about to go scrubbing that

 Yes, I researched ways to remove stains on the metal. And baking soda with vinegar works pretty decent. But it isn't about that. The reason I wanted to go with stainless steel is for LESS maintenance, not MORE than my Calphalon non-stick pans

 But the quality is not great for daily use. If buying for daily use they will wear out quickly and would recommend spending good money on a high quality set. But for what we bought it for fits our needs. Word of warning

The pots and pans that came in my 12-piece set didn't match the description, although I still like them. The largest pot was a 6 Qt and not an 8 Qt as listed. Instead of a 10" regular pan it came with a steaming attachment instead.

 The set is very handsome. Unfortunately, the set is very thin so I will have to cook on low heat very carefully.

You get what you Pay for

 I loved food and the ability to create pleasure in the sense of taste, form, subtlety, and art, but tired of people who could not appreciate any of it. And now, in this MSG, GMO/Engineered, Corporate Farm ingredient world it is hard to find 'good' food (of taste, texture, flavour, and health) outside of the local farmers market or what you can grow.

  I feel that this is due to the make up of the materials used to create the pan. That although it claims to be 18/10 Stainless ..

 it is not the same make-up as my other Tramonita Stainless cook ware of older date.  I have noticed this with other pans as well that I have recently purchased to replace an older pan. It is not just this Tramonita pan, but others as well. The Tramonita does seem to be the best of a list of disappointments, but it does not work as it should either

  For any questioning my competence in the use of this (and other) pan(s) ... I have had culinary schooling and worked as a chef for my living

Just not what they used to be.

Tramontina Gourmet Prima 1.5qt saucepan has a flat bottom, a good weight to it with a mirrored stainless steel finish outside and brushed stainless inside. Handles are easy to hold with just the right length. The saucepan worked very well with my GE Induction cooktop even though it's a bit smaller than the burner unit

 I was a bit concerned since I've read the pot cannot be smaller than the burner size or it may not work. No worry there since it works just fine with no scorching of the sides. I usually use the burner setting at 5 or 5 1/2 which works well with this pot. The only downsize is cooking starchy foods in it

 All in all I would definitely buy Tramontina Gourmet Prima or their similar induction ready models in the future.

Nice pot for the money

 The thick bottom cooks evenly and looks like it will not warp as many larger bottom pans will. I love that the lid and all handles are metal are oven safe. Stainless steel without non-stick coating is always my choice for pans, so that is a plus. I was a little surprised that the lid is as lightweight and thin as it is

 I cooked a pot roast in it and the lid did not seem to be an issue. but I fear the lid will be easy to warp or bend if dropped. I wish this casserole came in a slightly larger size that would accommodate a large chuck roast and some vegetables. The medium chuck roast I cooked in it almost filled the bottom of the pan with very little room left for vegetables

Oven safe metal handles and lid up to 450 F which is a big plus

I thought I would be nice and purchase my wife a new 12 piece set of Tramontina Gourmet Prima Stainless Steel cookware to replace the Chinese-made garbage that she has been poisoning us with but, as usual, I screwed up.  Although the Tramontina tri-ply base (80101) is great to cook with and made-in-Brazil, the sidewalls are very thin and easily dent. I should have gone with the Tramontina tri-ply clad (80116) which is thicker but I didn't want to take the chance with the set being made-in-China.  Very disappointed that Tramontina manufacturers cookware that has sidewalls that are only 1/16" thick

Tramontina Gourmet Prima (80101) is too thin

I would have given a 5-star, but my set came with the pasta insert instead of the 10" frying pan. I'm on a low-carb diet, so I really have no use for the pasta insert, and I love the set too much to return it. Guess I'll have to shop around for the 10" frying pan to add to my new collection.  Other reviews are talking about how it takes longer for things to heat

The construction of this cookware does require some time to pre-heat. A little patience is needed when learning to cook with a quality, heavy base, tri-ply constructed cookware (especially on an electric stovetop)
