I just completed my Trek Checkpoint Gravel Race bike w/full GRX Di2

Early 50s UK male, 8 marathons through my 40s, countless 1/2s, 10k and 5ks, a little out of shape but bored with running and looking for a new challenge. 

I have about £2k to spend and looking to dip my toe into cycling. Currently looking at gravel bikes due to versatility but also considering road bike for more serious miles and a cheap’ish Mountain bike for a bit of off road fun. 

Any thoughts or pitfalls you can suggest? I don’t want to spend too much and not get bitten by the bug, but also not spend too little and decide I need an upgrade quickly. 

I’m liking the look of Specialized Diverge E5 elite but you can’t get them for love nor money. I’ve had a Specialised bike 20yrs ago and enjoyed it, so favour the brand,  but have little knowledge or experience of other brands. 

Any help or pointers would be appreciated and I appreciate it might be a “how long is a piece of string” question but responses may get the grey matter working.

Ex marathon runner, 50+ looking to get into cycling. Looking for thoughts before going down the rabbit hole.

I want something with disc brakes and mounts for racks and fenders. Every LBS just suggests a gravel bike, but I really don’t need 42mm tires, that’s overkill. I’m also worried about a 1x set up. Plus the “gravel” trails near me are fine on skinny tires

What kind of bike would be best? I’m really struggling with this. Thanks!

Need helping finding the right style of bike

I'm looking for a decent gravel bike to graduate from a hand-me-down Schwinn straight bar hybrid. The market in my area seems to be pretty rough for finding a decent bike, but I plan to ride quite a few paths that are fairly rough with quite a few stretches of gravel/dirt.   


* I'm open to any manufacturer provided I can find it
* Budget is a soft $1000 USD - I'd be willing to go up to around 1500 for availability or big bumps in value.
* Any help with actually locating any suggestions would also be appreciated. The general bike selection seems to be pretty small atm.

Beginner Gravel Bike Suggestions

I'm looking for a frame with decent clearance (38mm is ok), carbon since I do a lot of hill racing with many mounting points to be versatile. Most brands I see make many mounting points on their aluminum frames but drop them for carbon (trek, scott, orbea, etc). 

The only brands that I see with good mounting points are the giant revolt advanced but I'm afraid the geometry is nowhere near racy enough for what I usually do, and the canyon grizl but it's advertised as "gnarly terrain" and I just don't go there. I only want soft gravel and white paths

Who makes a carbon frame with good mounting points and not too many proprietary kits?

Hello all! I recently posed a question about gravel bikes and what to look for in a do-it-all bike. I really appreciated the feedback I got! 

I have been delving into the “gravel” sector on bike websites. As I read, I understand that there is a large and wide gamut of gravel bikes ranging from ones that are more akin to road bikes to those more akin to mountain bikes. 

I would be riding 60% road and 40% gravel (sometimes the inverse but not often). Of the bikes listed in the title, where do they sit on this spectrum? I am asking about geometry here. I have no idea what to look for in geometry and what the stack, reach, and trail figures represent.

I just got a Trek Checkpoint SL7. I have been using for gravel and road, it's so comfortable with 40mm tires that I'm not sure I'll ever use my road bike again

I have a proper road bike and I recently bought a Colnago G3X gravel bike. I find myself riding my gravel bike more on the road than my road bike, not for speed but for confort and versatility. Any thoughts on using a gravel bike on the road more?
